Rockstar Games has been innovative through the years while waiting for the release of the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto game series. In between GTA V and the release of the GTA 6 trailer, GTA Online filled in the gap between the two games and it grew exponentially over the years. Now that GTA 6 will be coming out in a few years, what will GTA Online be like if there is already another game with all the attention?
The GTA 6 trailer release finally ended the drought for a new game under Rockstar Games within the Grand Theft Auto franchise which took a decade before coming into fruition. While GTA 6 may not be coming out yet until 2025, Grand Theft Auto Online is still ever-present following its predecessor GTA V. However, since there would be GTA 6 in 2025, the fate of GTA Online would be put in a difficult situation.
Grand Theft Auto Online provides a huge multiplayer game regularly played by millions all over the world. It is a dynamic and ever-evolving game where players can opt to play with themselves of with their friends. With the arrival of GTA 6, a challenge is being posed on Rockstar Games as to how they would manage the two games at once.
Is GTA Online closing once GTA 6 comes out?
The GTA 6 trailer showed a promising start for the upcoming game and it already reached millions of views. The GTA 6 trailer showcased what the people would expect in one of the most highly anticipated games of all time. The challenge now is how to integrate GTA Online to GTA 6 together or keep the games separate from each other. See, Rockstar Games would need to look out for both, especially GTA Online, since it is an ever-expanding game. While there is no official word from Rockstar Games, the chances of GTA Online being obliterated remains slim even when the GTA 6 arrives in 2025.
Rockstar Games cannot just move the whole database of GTA Online and ask the players of the game to start anew just because a new game is arriving. To move all of the players of GTA Online to a different place such as the location where GTA 6 would be bound to happen is not an option because that would give a multitude of logistical problems. On the other hand, Rockstar Games cannot bring another GTA Online as a sequel considering that the intricacies of the games plus the number of people who are already playing it could lose their respective progresses and start anew just because GTA 6 is coming soon.
What Rockstar Game could do with the possibility of having GTA 6 and GTA Online is to make each other complement each other or that GTA Online could assist with GTA 6 once the time comes. Rockstar Games could also integrate GTA Online with the subscriptions on GTA Plus connect what happens between GTA 6 and to make both games cohesive with each other.
Nonetheless, Rockstar Games is still silent on the issue as to how GTA Online would affect GTA 6 or vice versa. The best confirmation on how Rockstar Games would handle the situation, is, of course, the announcement from them. While there is still none, having an official word from Rockstar Games would suffice. For now, GTA Online remains as it is for the players to enjoy.
GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025.
