Jenna Ortega has dropped major details about Wednesday Season 2 at the 75th Annual Emmy Awards. After the premiere season’s successful release on Netflix in 2022, the actress teased its return to be “bigger,” “more action-packed," and “more horror” as it’s about to dive further back into the Addams Family roots.
In an interview with E! News on the Emmys red carpet, Ortega told the host Laverne Cox that she had already received the scripts for Wednesday Season 2 and learned that they were “definitely leaning into more horror” this time. This even made the 21-year-old excited, admitting that her character needed a “bit of an arc.”
“She never really changes, and that's the wonderful thing about her,” she said.
Of course, the second season will still feature Wednesday’s signature wit, as Ortega teased that there will be good one-liners. She furthered that everything would be bigger and more action-packed this time.
“I think each episode will probably feel a little bit like a movie, which is nice,” she continued.
Ortega was nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress in the Comedy Series at the Emmys for her performance in Wednesday Season 1. And though she didn’t bag the award, with Quinta Brunson coming out as the winner, the hit Netflix series won the Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Contemporary Costumes for a Series, and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.
Wednesday Season 2 Production: When will it begin?
Like other TV and movie productions, the filming of Wednesday Season 2 was delayed due to the Hollywood strikes. But now that resolutions have been met, the cameras are expected to start rolling in the spring, per Variety. However, instead of Romania, the show will move its filming location to Ireland this time.
Ortega, who also serves as the second season’s executive producer, revealed to Variety in June 2023 that she had been “very hands-on” on the series, and they had been throwing out a lot of ideas for it. And considering Wednesday is a beloved and iconic character, she didn’t want to get her role wrong, so she’s having as many conversations as possible. That said, the Scream alum works closely with the series’ director and fellow EP Tim Burton and the writers to make decisions.
She added:
So far, Netflix has yet to announce when Wednesday Season 2 will be released. But with this latest update from Ortega herself, fans are only getting more excited.
