During Netflix's TUDUM Global Event on June 17, the cast of Wednesday reacted to some of the biggest fan theories including that the second season will introduce a new member of the Addams Family.
It was also reported that Percy Hynes White has been cut from the Season 2 cast following sexual assault allegations.
After the WGA strike wrapped up, Wednesday Season 2 is rumored to be one of Netflix's top priorities with the streamer reportedly trying to get production ready for the second season.
Wednesday Season 2 Potential Release Date: When will the new season coming to Netflix?
Most, if not all, fans can recall that Netflix released a video on Twitter when it confirmed the making of Wednesday Season 2. If the upcoming installment follows the same production schedule as the first, fans estimate that filming and post-production will take another 12 to 14 months, putting the potential release of the second season in the middle of 2024.
As of this writing, there were no details beyond the season two announcement, but there have been some developments since then. In an interview with Netflix’s TUDUM, Wednesday co-creator Miles Millar previously stated:
"It's been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday's tortuous journey into season two. We can't wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn't emptied the pool first."
Prior to the official announcement, there was considerable speculation regarding Wednesday Season 2. Following Amazon's merger with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), the production company that produces Wednesday for Netflix, there were rumors that the second season would not air on Netflix but rather on Prime Video. But, with Netflix’s official word, we now know that was nonsense.
Wednesday Season 2 Cast: Who are the actors starring in the second season?
Just like most sequels, most cast members are expected to make a comeback in Wednesday Season 2. Headlined by Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, other stars expected to return in the upcoming second installment include Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems, the shapeshifting principal of Nevermore Academy; Riki Lindhome as Dr. Valerie Kinbott, the court-ordered therapist of Wednesday; Jamie McShane as Donovan Galpin, the sheriff who is suspicious of Nevermore Academy and Wednesday specifically; Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, a barista in a coffee shop and has a romantic interest in Wednesday; Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, the colorful werewolf roommate of Wednesday at Nevermore Academy; and Christina Ricci as Marilyn Thornhill and Lauren Gates, the Botany teacher at Nevermore Academy and dorm mother of Wednesday and Enid.
Fans also project to see Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe in Wednesday Season 2, together with Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, George Farmer as Ajax Petropolus, Naomi J. Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka and Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Ottinger, who are also students at Nevermore Academy. Of course, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Isaac Ordonez and George Burcea are also expected to return as Morticia Addams, Gomez Addams, Pugsley Addams and Lurch, the Addams family’s butler, respectively.
Wednesday Season 2 Plot: What is the upcoming second season about?
Unfortunately, Netflix has not released official details about the plot of Wednesday Season 2 as of press time. Avid followers of the series are aware that the narrative is derived from the original tale of the Addams Family and woven into a murder mystery, making it a whodunit in the gothic noir style.
To recall, the entire first season centered on the character and personality of Wednesday as a teen and how she gradually transitioned from a closed-off, highly self-centered adolescent to one who is more receptive to friendship and love while also assisting her pals in uncovering a stalker and monster named Hyde. Wednesday Season 2 is anticipated to have a two-year time shift from the first season's events to account for the time required to complete production.
Fans also hope that in the upcoming season, her family, especially Morticia and Gomez, will receive more screen time, which will help viewers better comprehend Wednesday's background. In an interview about what followers of the show can expect in Wednesday Season 2, showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar told The Hollywood Reporter:
“We wanna sort of explore and sort of complicate all of those relationships going forward. The school was closed when they left, which gave us the most possibilities for season two, and I think that’s something that we’re excited to explore. For us, the show also is really about this female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid really being at the center of that. The fact that they really connected with audiences, it has been really gratifying. So, we’re excited to explore now that Wednesday’s dipped her toe into the friendship pool, what’s that gonna look like? It’s like, she hugged. That was her big arc for the season, right? So it’s like now, we do that. Then, the other thing that’s really interesting is to continue to explore the Wednesday-Morticia mother-daughter relationship as well, which now that Morticia knows about the power, it has given her sort of an idea of how that’s going to go. How is their relationship going to evolve?”
Series actress Emma Myers suggested that Wednesday could use a “season of singleness” in the forthcoming second installment. Also, Jenna Ortega talked about what she would personally want Wednesday Season 2 to be like. The lead star said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon:
“We just started the writers room. I think we want to up the horror aspect a little bit and then get Wednesday out of the romantic situation, let her be her own individual and fight her own crimes.”
In a conversation with Elle Fanning on Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Jenna also divulged that Wednesday Season 2 will cut out the romantic subplots in favor of more horrors. The actress said:
“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously. We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great.”

During the TUDUM event hosted by Netflix in June 2023, Jenna Ortega along with other cast members, discussed the possibility of introducing new characters to the show's second season. The discussion, which was reported by Entertainment Weekly, focused on the inclusion of missing members of the Addams family.
Ortega expressed her desire to see the character "Cousin Itt" make an appearance in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, and Hunter Doohan suggested that "Grandmama" could potentially be involved in the show's second season.
