From the cult classic The Addams Family comes the solo outing of everyone's favorite sister in her own titular series on Netflix. After the landslide success of the first installment of the show, Wednesday Season 2 is on the way as the production of the series gets an interesting update on the location and tentative start of the filming of the show. While details on the plot remains scarce, it is expected to pick-up from the events of the first season.
Wednesday has been a fan-favorite since its release on Netflix as it became one of the most watched shows on the streaming platform. Starring Jenna Ortega as the titular Wednesday, the series first had its shot in Romania from September 2021 to March 2022. The Balkan region is not without its challenges logistically and the first season turned out to be worth it all but for the second season, the whole production gets an interesting update as it moves somewhere else.
In a report from Deadline, Wednesday Season 2 will not continue filming in Romania but rather, the series will be relocating its production in Ireland. The production of the show was put to a halt due to the strikes but with the series being a huge hit, its production was prioritized. The series is eyeing to start filming in late April 2024. If the track of the production of the first season will be followed, the earliest possible release date of Wednesday Season 2 could be around late 2024 to early 2025, depending on the post-production of the show.
What will Wednesday Season 2 be about?
In January 2023, Wednesday Season 2 has been given a green light by Netflix to continue the story of the psychic Wednesday Addams who just solved a murder mystery in her new school, Nevermore Academy. With the location changing from Romania to Ireland, it could suggest that Wednesday Season 2 will no longer be happening in Nevermore Academy. This could be directly connected to the end of Season 1 where Wednesday was seen leaving the school which closed for the rest of the semester.
The same report from Deadline mentioned above also revealed that Wednesday Season 2 would depart from the school setting and explore more the relationship between Wednesday and the rest of the Addams Family members, especially her mother whom she shares the same abilities with. It also suggested that the story will focus more in its horror aspect rather than teen romance. Jenna Ortega will be more involved in the direction of the series as she became one of the producers for Season 2. Series creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, and director Tim Burton are returning for Season 2 as well.
Wednesday Season 2 has no release date yet. All the episodes of Season 1 are available to stream on Netflix.
