Everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a delight especially for the theories that come up in every release and possibly in every episode for the shows of the franchise. One of those fan-favorite rumors circulated on the very first series of the MCU in WandaVision. With the lack of an apparent villain in the show, the fans speculated that it would be Mephisto. Almost three years after the release, director Matt Shakman starts speaking of the devil.
WandaVision is the very first series of the MCU on Disney+, and basically the very first release of the franchise since the global pandemic brought back everyone to their homes. The show brought a reintroduction of Wanda Maximoff on how she coped up with everything that happened in Avengers: Endgame. Without an apparent villain from the start, the fans speculated that Mephisto was lurking in the shadows but in the end, it was Agatha all along.
Speaking of the devil through Inverse, WandaVision director Matt Shakman broke free and revealed that the villain was not even in their thoughts when crafting the series. He said, "There were some deep readings of the text that led to certain conclusions that were wrong. Mephisto was never a part of our plan. So that was a head-scratcher. But hey, he's a great character."
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a creative way of introducing characters in the narrative and in WandaVision, they revealed that Agatha Harkness was the villain in the catchiest way possible with a song number Agatha All Along which perfectly fitted the theme of the series. This easily made the character of Kathryn Hahn a fan-favorite and with this, she is getting her own upcoming Marvel series titled Agatha: Darkhold Series.
Who is Mephisto and will he be in the MCU?
Mephisto is a comic book villain of Marvel which is the version of the devil. He reigns over the dominion of hell as the most powerful entity in that realm. He has abilities of memory manipulation, project illusions, and time alterations. While the MCU has a fair share of big villains with the introduction of the Multiverse, Mephisto is one which is too sinister and demonic that his mere presence could shake things up.
Recently, it has been rumored that Mephisto would finally be arriving in the MCU through Sacha Baron Cohen in Ironheart. Sacha Baron Cohen has been confirmed to have joined the cast as "Mystery Man" and it has been speculated that he will be Mephisto which he would play perfectly with his acting prowess.
