Sacha Baron Cohen has long been rumored to be involved in a Marvel project. This has been going on since WandaVision aired in 2021 but he has not appeared yet in any of the shows or movies of the franchise. Now, the rumor mill may have gotten it right that he would join the MCU.
Another big name is being added to the roster of the Marvel Cinematic Universe actors as Sacha Baron Cohen has been confirmed to join the franchise via a recent copyright filing, as reported by The Direct, where it is indicated that he will be joining the cast of Marvel's Ironheart. In the copyright filing, the role of Sacha Baron Cohen remains under wraps, only being named under "Mystery Man," which could be intentional on the part of the showrunners to conceal the real character he would play.
Who is Sacha Baron Cohen playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
A shroud of secrecy surrounds the role of Sacha Baron Cohen under the name of "Mystery Man" in Ironheart but theories point to him playing Mephisto for quite some time. Mephisto is Marvel's version of the devil, the powerful entity who reigns the dominion of Hell. He manipulates memories, projects illusions, and alters time.
How could Mephisto fit into Ironheart? With the villain of the series being Parker Robbins a.k.a. the Hood, played by Anthony Ramos, Robbins could have acquired his abilities from something dark, otherworldly like that of the Bad Place, the dominion of Mephisto.
Looking at Sacha Baron Cohen, it is no question whether he could pull off the role. With his acting prowess, he could easily deliver being sinister and demonic. While it is not yet confirmed whether Sacha Baron Cohen would play Mephisto, he fits the bill perfectly.
Ironheart is set to release in 2025.
