The first part of Virgin River Season 5 ended with several cliffhangers. But if there’s one thing fans want to see the most, it’s to know who Mel’s birth father is in the upcoming Christmas episodes. Now that the WGA strike has ended, the show’s executive producer, Patrick Sean Smith, discussed the mystery surrounding Mel’s biological dad.
Smith promised fans would get the answers to their questions about the fifth season’s first 10 episodes. But despite the big reveals about to happen, he teased that Virgin River Season 5 Christmas episodes would be lighter in tone to lessen the heaviness that the first part featured.

It has been known that in the previous season’s first part finale, Joey found some love letters between their mother and a mysterious man from Virgin River. One of the letters was signed “Champ,” so in an interview with Glamour, Smith was asked if that was a clue about Mel’s father.
“It's a clue in the holiday episodes,” he said. “And it's the only thing Mel really has to go off of.”
But if fans expect the Christmas episodes to explore much of this storyline, the TV writer revealed that the last two installments will be lighter this time. It will feature a little comedy to brighten up the mood after everything that happened in the first part.
However, viewers will still see Mel and Jack looking for the former’s dad in Virgin River Season 5 Christmas episodes. They will do their best to track him down in the small town of Virgin River “from clue to clue.”
Who is Mel’s father in Virgin River?
There are several theories surrounding Mel’s father. But despite the many names that emerge, fans strongly believe it’s Doc. Due to his age and relationship with Mel, he’s the top contender to be her dad. However, Smith said it could be anyone in Virgin River, and the last two episodes would make fans realize that.
He was also asked if viewers had already met this guy, to which he said, “I don’t want to reveal.”
But amongst the many names who could be Mel’s father, fans didn’t want this guy to be Jack’s father for some obvious reasons. Thankfully, Smith ruled that out, revealing that anyone other than Jack’s dad could be a suspect.
Virgin River Season 5 Christmas episodes will be released on November 30 on Netflix. With the continuation of the series’ great story, fans are now counting down the days until the show’s return.
