The Wheel of Time Season 2 will see Amazon's high fantasy series returning for even more action. Recently, Prime Video released a featurette titled “Terror of the Trollocs,” revealing new details about their appearance and their creation.
For starters, Trollocs are genetically engineered combatants resembling boars, bears, or raptors. These are vicious, bloodthirsty killing machines created by the Dark One to carry out his orders. Robert Jordan introduced them for the first time in The Eye of the World, the first novel in his best-selling Wheel of Time series, from which the Amazon Prime Video series was adapted.
Aside from unveiling the the appearance of the human-animal hybrids, the said video also included previously recorded interviews with actress Rosamund Pike, makeup effects designer Nick Dudman, executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins, executive producer Mike Weber, and writer/co-executive producer Justine Juel Gillmer. Gillmer explained that a mixture of visual and practical effects brought about the scary look of the Trollocs. "We mixed prosthetics with VFX. They look unlike anything I’ve seen on TV," she shared. No wonder the executive producer refer these creatures as “Nightmare Fuel.”
In The Wheel of Time Season 2 video, we can also see some exclusive behind-the-scene footage in which wires are pushing back the Trollocs. Fans can even see their prosthetic horns getting detached from their body and flying off. The entire stunt and prosthetic/make-up teams worked closely together to ensure everyone on the set remained safe and the ultimate action scenes could come to life.
What will happen in The Wheel of Time Season 2?
The Wheel of Time Season 2 is mostly based on the second novel of writer Robert Jordan called The Great Hunt. However, it will also contain certain aspects of the third The Wheel of Time novel titled The Dragon Reborn.
To recall, Rand and Moiraine had sneaked off in search of The Eye of the World by the end of the first season, where they had a perilous encounter with the Dark One. Meanwhile, the remainder of the group fought alongside the forces of Fal Dara against the Dark One's forces.
With the aid of a totem provided to him by Moiraine, Rand was able to vanquish the Dark One deeper into his current prison. In spite of his victory, he urged Moiraine, who was severed from the One Power by the Dark One during this encounter, to inform his friends that he had perished out of concern for what he might do now that he has a connection to the One Power, and he continued on his journey alone.
Undoubtedly, The Wheel of Time Season 2 will deal with the repercussions of this pivotal decision, as well as Mat's activities and the advent of the Seanchan army from across the sea.
