Lucasfilm unveiled a captivating new Big Game spot for The Mandalorian and Grogu during Super Bowl LX, giving audiences their latest glimpse into the upcoming Star Wars theatrical adventure. The 37-second trailer features the armored bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young companion Grogu journeying through a snowy landscape, pulled by a team of tauntauns across what appears to be the iconic icy planet Hoth—first introduced in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. The spot pays homage to classic Super Bowl commercials, blending warmth, humor, and high-stakes spectacle in a way that highlights the unbreakable bond between the two characters.

This teaser arrives as the first major Star Wars film to hit theaters since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, marking a significant return to the big screen for the franchise's live-action storytelling. Directed by Jon Favreau, who co-created the original Disney+ series The Mandalorian and serves as writer alongside Dave Filoni, the movie expands the beloved narrative into a full-scale cinematic experience. Watch the teaser here:

Set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, the story follows Din Djarin and Grogu as the fledgling New Republic enlists their help against lingering Imperial warlords scattered across the galaxy. The official logline emphasizes their role in protecting the gains of the Rebellion, promising an all-new adventure filled with action, heart, and the signature Star Wars grandeur.

Grogu is more than a character; he’s a pop culture phenomenon. Riding alongside the heroic Mandalorian, he brings lightness, humor, joy, and an instant emotional connection that transcends the moment,” said Disney’s executive VP of creative marketing Jackson George. “This Big Game spot celebrates how deeply we love and connect with these characters, reminds us of the fun, heart, and spectacle that defines Star Wars, and offers a bite-sized promise of the experience audiences will get when they see these two beloved icons on the big screen.”

The creative approach for the spot drew inspiration from past Big Game advertising traditions. Ryan Stankevich described it as “instantly iconic, cinematic, and quintessentially Star Wars.” He added, “Our creative and marketing team landed on a unique concept that gave a nod to classic Big Game spots of years past. It captured the warmth, humor, and emotional connection between these two beloved characters and was the perfect next step for our campaign as we lead up to their big screen debut this summer.”

The film's cast brings together returning favorites and new additions to the Star Wars universe. Pedro Pascal reprises his role as the legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, with Grogu (affectionately known as Baby Yoda) appearing as his Force-sensitive apprentice. Joining them are Sigourney Weaver in a role as a skilled fighter pilot aligned with the New Republic, Jeremy Allen White voicing Rotta (Jabba the Hutt’s rebellious son), Jonny Coyne as a ruthless Imperial warlord, and cameos from beloved characters like Babu Frik and Zeb Orrelios.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is poised to deliver the scale and spectacle that a theatrical release demands, building on the massive success of the Disney+ series that debuted in 2019 and quickly became a cultural touchstone. With production underway and the marketing campaign gaining momentum through this high-profile debut, the film represents a key chapter in the ongoing expansion of the Star Wars saga.
