Rimuru is making a grand comeback to the big screen as Crunchyroll is helping to release That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea internationally in April and May 2026! The global release dates were announced today, with tickets for each region to go on sale at a later date. The movie will release in the United States and Canada on May 1, 2026 in both Japanese with English subtitles as well as dubbed in English.

This marks the second theatrical feature for the hugely popular isekai franchise, following the earlier That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond. The new film serves as a standalone side story, taking place after the conclusion of the third season and the establishment of the Demon Kingdom Federation Tempest. It promises a mix of relaxation, mystery, and high-stakes adventure as Rimuru Tempest and his companions embark on what was meant to be a peaceful vacation.

The movie is produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks and animated by studio eightbit, with direction by Yasuhito Kikuchi. The script is co-written by Kikuchi and Toshizo Nemoto, based on Fuse’s original light novel series. Character designs come from Ryoma Ebata, and the score is composed by Hitoshi Fujima. In Japan, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea is set to open in theaters on February 27, 2026, with screenings planned at around 380 locations, including premium formats such as IMAX and 4D.

This timing positions the movie release shortly after the Japanese debut and aligns with the lead-up to the fourth season, allowing fans to experience fresh content from the franchise in both theatrical and streaming formats. The previous film in the series received a re-release in North American theaters on April 20, 2026, as part of Crunchyroll's Anime Nights program, which included an exclusive sneak peek of Tears of the Azure Sea. The film's plot centers on a relaxing yet eventful getaway for Rimuru and his allies. Here's the official synopsis:

After concluding the opening ceremony of the Demon Kingdom Federation Tempest, Rimuru and his companions are invited by the Celestial Emperor Hermesia of the great elven nation – the Magi Dynasty Salion – to visit her private resort island. As the group enjoys their brief vacation, a mysterious woman named Yura appears. A new incident unfolds against the backdrop of the boundless azure sea.

For viewers interested in catching up or diving deeper into the franchise, all three existing seasons of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime are currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
