The Kitchen: Everything You Need to Know About Netflix’s New Dystopian Drama

A new dystopian drama is making its way on Netflix. The steamer has officially released the trailer for The Kitchen, featuring the Top Boy star Kane Robinson as he travels across an oppressive London, where the gap between the rich and the poor is now greater than ever. So, from the cast to the official synopsis and more, here’s everything you need to know about this new movie.

Premiering at the BFI London Film Festival in October, The Kitchen has received rave reviews, with a rating of 83 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. It sees the Oscar-winning actor Daniel Kaluuya behind the scenes as the co-director, co-writer, and producer. He also co-wrote the script with Joe Murtagh and Rob Hayes.

The British actor produced the movie under his production company, 59% Productions, while Daniel Emmerson produced it for DMC Film. The movie is also the first time Kibwe Tavares has directed a feature film, while Michael Fassbender, David Kimbangi, Conor McCaughan, and Ollie Madden serve as the executive producers.

What is The Kitchen about?

Set in a dystopian London in 2044, The Kitchen features a social divide between the classes and sees working-class residents staying in one of the city’s last social housing estates called The Kitchen. It follows the story of Izi, one of the temporary lodgings’ residents trying to find his way out, and Benji, who has lost his mom and longs to have his own family.

Are there a trailer and preview stills for The Kitchen?

Netflix has released the official trailer and preview stills for The Kitchen. The preview gives a glimpse of the huge divide between the rich and the poor. It shows a group of bikers and holographic displays to complete its futuristic look.

“I’m getting out of this place,” Izi says, with another man telling him, “It’s our home.” With everything happening in London, he wants to save himself until he meets Benji, who belongs to the upper class. He finds Izi in The Kitchen and makes friends with people there until Izi asks him to leave.

“You ain’t built like them,” Izi says. As the child has nowhere to go, he witnesses how police brutality often happens in this place. “You wanted to know what it’s like, right?” Izi asks Benji. “This is war.”

Alternatively, one still features Izi in his motorcycle while Benji stands in front of him, while another shows the kid in his bike while seemingly trying to find The Kitchen. There’s also a still for the group of bikers that will play a major part in the movie.
