Marvel Studios is now gearing up for its next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, The Fantastic Four. As the studio recently released its main cast, Pedro PascalVanessa KirbyEbon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, it already shuts down David Krumholtz’s desire to play The Thing, which eventually goes to Moss-Bachrach. But that doesn’t stop the Santa Clause star from dreaming of being part of the MCU and eyes to portray the villain Mole Man instead.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly to promote his new movie, Lousy Carter, Krumholtz revealed that he campaigned to play the part of Ben Grimm/The Thing in The Fantastic Four. As a massive comic book fan, it has been his unashamed dream to be part of the MCU, and he even met director Matt Shakman to secure the said role after sharing a post online, which he later deleted after feeling “embarrassed.”

“It was a picture of the Thing, and Matt saw it somehow,” he described his post. “And I had a meeting with him, and we discussed it.”

The 45-year-old admitted to being bold in their meeting to the extent that he even begged Shakman for the role. But despite selling himself and showing how committed and passionate he was for it, he still failed to be part of the film, and the role eventually went to Moss-Bachrach.

“I think Ebon Moss-Bachrach is a really great choice,” he said. “It makes way more sense in some ways.”

However, Krumholtz isn’t giving up yet and still wants to make it to The Fantastic Four by playing the villainous character of Mole Man. Once again, he started campaigning for the role in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“It’s not a joke at all,” he continued. “I mean, it's a shoe-in for Mole Man, isn't it?”

Whether he is cast in the film or not, the actor swears to do anything Marvel will say—even if he has to play a superhero’s therapist. “We'll see how that works out if it works out at all,” he added.

What is The Fantastic Four about?

So far, Marvel Studios has yet to reveal the synopsis for The Fantastic Four. However, there are several theories about how this movie will play out and be part of the MCU. In the YouTube channel Beyond The Trailer, Grace Randolph claimed that she heard the film’s script featured “two storylines.” Allegedly, it would be like Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, though she admitted she didn’t know what the two timelines or storylines were. “One in the past or one in the future,” she added.

Though nothing is confirmed yet, this may imply that the movie will feature the first Marvel family as a fully formed team and then will revisit their origin story in flashbacks, which happened in Little Women. By the looks of it, this one will be fitting since the team’s traditional origin tale was already featured in the two Fantastic Four movies in 2005 and 2015.
