Lucasfilm may be doing heavy load for series on Disney+ but there are still movies that the franchise could expect in the near future as some were already announced in the past. One of those is Taika Waititi's untitled Star Wars movie and much recently, the director revealed that his film is still under development and he's taking his time to ensure its quality. Waititi joked that his movie would divide the fandom saying "It’s gonna piss people off" but he might actually be telling the truth, too.
The first time that Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie was announced was in 2020 during Disney's Investor's Day and it was unveiled by none other than Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. Taika Waititi is best known as a comedian, actor, and filmmaker with a lot of experience. He is best known for his work in Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit, and What Do We Do in the Shadows. The director is of a high caliber to join a mega-franchise like Star Wars. He did his Lucasfilm directorial debut with a finale on The Mandalorian series and he voiced a droid named IG-11, thus, he is no stranger to the galaxy far, far away.
Waititi recently talked to Variety about his Lucasfilm movie and he said, “It will be… a Taika Waititi film. It’s gonna piss people off." While the director laughed it off, the director may actually have a point because that could be true. It's hard to make people laugh and sometimes, not all jokes are funny to all. Put into perspective Thor: Love and Thunder, it was hilarious but many people did not like the movie.

Despite the fans loving Thor: Ragnarok with all its colors and vibes, lightning did not strike the same place twice. As mentioned above, Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder did divide the MCU. It was one of the lightest movies in the whole franchise but at the same time, it was rated as one of the worst that it is considered as a hit-and-miss movie. Some loved it but some didn't, clearly making a divide in the MCU on whether the film is good or bad.
Well, Taika Waititi has a point that his movie can divide the whole Star Wars fanbase. In fact, it need not be his movie to bring a divide on the fanbase. The very existence of contrasting views shake up the whole fanbase. To date, there is no Star Wars project similar to the comedic style of Taika Waititi and to put it into perspective, think Thor: Ragnarok humor plus the galaxy far, far away. Just the thought of it could bring a divide among the fans of the franchise.
Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie has no release date nor title yet.
