Netflix has released new stills for its upcoming K-Drama series, Doona!, ahead of its October 20 premiere. The romance series is based on the webtoon The Girl Downstairs by Min Songa, and its story centers on a retired K-pop idol Doona (Bae Suzy) and an ordinary university student Won Jun (Yang Se-Jong) who meet at a share house.
On October 11, Netflix shared new stills revealing the romantic chemistry between Doona and Won Jun who vowed not to fall in love with each other.
Doona, who was a member of a the popular idol group Dream Sweet, unexpectedly announces her retirement and hides in a share house close to a university. Leading a solitary life with no friends, she meets Won Jun at the house and initially mistakes him for a stalker, so he treats him coldly.
Won Jun, who's caught between the realms of romance and reality, finds Doona's complexity intriguing, so she becomes more special to him. Eventually, she surprisingly invites him to share a meal, causing their worlds to start connecting.
The K-drama is directed by Lee Jung-hyo, who described the two leads: “Doona who finds it challenging to express herself and Won Jun who finds it challenging to understand Doona.” (via Soompi)
He added, “We depict the relationship between these two characters by following it from Won Jun’s point of view. This will allow [viewers] to understand both Doona and Won Jun’s perspectives.”
Suzy, the 28-year-old singer/actress who starred in shows such as Vagabond and Start-Up, also experessed her excitement (via Soompi) for the highly-anticipated drama. “Since this is a drama where we worked alongside young actors of similar age, I’m excited and look forward to the chemistry that will be shown at the share house. These actors are the ones who have added a unique charm and vibrant colors to this series.”
Yang Se Jong added, “In Doona!, each character brings their own unique backstory, and I believe that’s one of the enjoyable aspects to look forward to in the drama.”
