The production for the last and final season of Stranger Things starts in January 2024, and the culmination of Eleven and the rest of his friends and family’s fight against Vecna is about to begin. As the cast slowly says goodbye to their characters, with lead star Millie Bobby Brown preparing to “get out” of the Netflix series, Maya Hawke opens up about “the end” of her character’s journey in the upcoming Stranger Things Season 5.

Hawke first played Robin Buckley in Stranger Things Season 3 and instantly became a fan favorite. She then played a major part in the previous season, helping Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) and Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) find and defeat Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) in the Upside Down. As Robin’s story and the series are about to end, Hawke can’t help but be emotional in her interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of her new movie, Inside Out 2.

“It's already starting to be heartbreaking, you know?” she said. “I mean, it's the end of a really long journey.”

Entering the show on its third season, the actress knew her castmates, who had been part of the series since the first season, had a longer journey than her. As the conclusion would be more emotional for them, Hawke wanted to make their feelings lighter and be grateful that she had been a part of one of Netflix’s flagship series.

“As a late addition cast member, I feel like it's my job to be here to facilitate their feelings and just be grateful and excited to have been a part of it at all,” she explained.

What’s next for Robin in Stranger Things Season 5?

Fans last saw Robin bonding with her crush, Vickie (Amybeth McNulty), in the previous season. However, with the threat of Vecna’s return and the Upside Down coming out of Hawkins, Robin may have no time to date. However, if the show ends on a positive note and gives its characters the happy ending they deserve, fans may see these two dating, becoming the series’ first-ever LGBTQ+ couple.

Of course, Robin will also be seen helping Eleven and the rest of the gang fight off the evil Vecna and save the small city of Hawkins and its people. After investigating the Creel murders and their connection to the mysteries in Hawkins, she bravely uncovered conspiracies and faced the dangers of the Upside Down. This may continue in Stranger Things Season 5, as she works with her closest friends, Steve, Nancy, and Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo).
