Joseph Quinn quickly rose to stardom after the introduction of his character, Eddie Munson, in Stranger Things Season 4. Well, the actor put the fire on Hellfire Club, becoming an instant fan favorite with his perfect portrayal of the idiosyncratic leader of the group. However, after fighting off a horde of Demobats and his iconic guitar solo of Metallica’s Master of Puppets, his heroic journey ends with his emotional demise while trying to protect the town that vilifies him. As many are clamoring to see his return in Stranger Things Season 5, the Marvel’s The Fantastic Four star has teased his possible comeback.
In his recent appearance at FACTS Belgian Comic-Con, a fan asked Quinn if he would return in Stranger Things Season 5 to reprise his role as Eddie. In a clip shared by @JQuinnSourceUK on X, the audience could be heard cheering as they waited for the English actor to answer. The Game of Thrones star seemed surprised and hesitant to answer the million-dollar question. But as he held his mic, he teased he knew what would happen next, though he only played coy about it.
“I do know,” he confessed. “But I’m not telling you.”
Netflix has yet to confirm Quinn’s return to its flagship show’s final season, but the 30-year-old’s response is seemingly telling. In fact, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in July 2022, he revealed anything was possible and he would be up for it if it happened.
How could Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson return to Stranger Things Season 5?
Fans saw Eddie’s demise in Stranger Things Season 4 after using his guitar-playing expertise to distract the Demobats in the Upside Down while others made their way to Creel House to catch Vecna. Unfortunately, with the swarms of Demobats that attacked him, he ultimately died at the hands of Dustin. Since then, there have been questions about Eddie’s possible return in Stranger Things Season 5.
As his death seems to be definitive, it's quite impossible for him to return from the dead. Hence, he may only be seen in the final season in flashbacks, like when Dustin starts to reminisce about their friendship and their time together. But if Netflix chooses to feature him alive, just like what happened to Hopper in the third season, it’s possible to show that he didn’t actually die in that Demobat scene, and he somehow lives on in a sort of limbo state in the Upside Down. If this happens, it may look like a fan service, putting his sacrifice to waste.
What to Expect from Stranger Things Season 5
Netflix has been keeping the plot details for Stranger Things Season 5 under wraps, but the series’ co-creator, Ross Duffer, has been dropping some hints about it. Earlier, he revealed that the final season would put Will Byer back in the spotlight, just like the first season, as his character would again be explored.
“This emotional arc for him is what we feel is going to hopefully tie the whole series together,” he told Variety.
Will will again be the center of attention after being put on the sidelines in the previous seasons. This time, he will come out of his shell and no longer be seen as the young, introverted guy who has always been protected. Aside from his sexuality, Ross said that part of his journey is “coming into his own as a young man.”
Stranger Things Season 5 is now in production and is set to be released on Netflix in 2025. As it will be the last time that fans see their favorite group of friends and the small town of Hawkins, expect more surprises, which may probably include Quinn’s appearance as Eddie.
