Disney+ released the official trailer of Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3, giving fans a glimpse of the epic fight in the final season. But aside from showing the conflicts the Clone Force 99 faces, the preview also unveils the unexpected return of Asajj Ventress. Amid the belief that the former Jedi Padawan is dead, the show’s director and producer, Brad Rau, talks about the free agent’s surprising comeback.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3 trailer surprises everyone after featuring Asajj with a new outfit and a head full of hair. She, too, is wielding a yellow-blade lightsaber this time. As many wondered about her return in the series’ final season, Rau confessed his love for her on the official Star Wars website.

Among the franchise's many characters, he revealed the Sith assassin is the character they want to tell more stories about. “We love Asajj Ventress,” he said. “She’s a character that we’ve been wanting to tell more stories about.”

Fans last saw Asajj in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 5, while her story continued in the 2015 novel Star Wars: Dark Disciple, where she died. That said, Rau revealed that the bounty hunter’s return would honor the previous stories about her, including her death in the said book.

“We don't want to spoil anything but want fans to know that any new storytelling with Ventress will align with the events of Star Wars: Dark Disciple,” he continued.

This proves that Star Wars: Dark Disciple is canon, and fans are about to see its connection to the story in Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3. Also, knowing Asajj is a Nightsister, it remains to be seen if she will have a connection to the MandoVerse, especially now that Ahsoka has featured Nightsisters and Dathomir.

How did Asajj Ventress die?

Asajj remains a bounty hunter in Star Wars: Dark Disciple and is determined to work alone. However, she’s later paired with Jedi Quinlan Vos to work on a mission to assassinate Count Dooku. But their collaboration changes Asajj. Aside from falling in love with Vos, she also recognizes the Light Side in her.

But as Vos falls to the Dark Side, Asajj tries to save him even if it costs her own life. Count Dooku is seen as the real reason behind her death, that is, if she’s really gone. Her Star Wars databank entry hints that Asajj may still be alive, with the logline that reads, “The wasn’t the end of Asajj’s story.”
