The story of the Sith will finally be told in Star Wars: The Acolyte, and fans will soon see it play out on Disney+ sooner than expected. After building great anticipation following the exclusive release of its first trailer at the Star Wars Celebration last year, the new Star Wars series created by Leslye Headland, who co-created Netflix’s Russian Doll, now has a release window: Summer 2024.
Collider confirmed the release window for The Acolyte, set at the end of the High Republic era, several years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. This time, instead of focusing on the Jedi, it will put the Sith Order at the forefront and will tell more about the dark side of the Force and how this ancient religious order manages to infiltrate the light side.
Talking about the potential of expanding beyond the story of the Jedi and exploring the untouched tale in the Star Wars saga, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told Collider that they are intrigued with this part of the Sith. If it works, they will see it as an opportunity to “expand on that.”
"We actually were intrigued with that because if that show works, then it really gives us an opportunity to expand on that," she said. "And that's what's so great about television because it gives us sort of this larger playground for experimenting."
