Fans who miss seeing Carrie-Anne Moss showing off her great fighting skills on screen will again witness her impressive abilities to fight off the enemies as Jedi Master Indara in Star Wars: The Acolyte. This time, she will be holding a green lightsaber as she faces the evil forces in the galaxy far, far away, alongside her fellow Jedis. As seen in the Disney+ series’ trailer, Moss battles the mysterious assassin Mae (Amandla Stenberg) in hand-to-hand combat. If this scene looks familiar, bringing her martial arts excellence to the forefront, it’s because the show’s creator, Leslye Headland, confirms her character is inspired by her iconic role as Trinity in The Matrix.

In Empire’s cover story of The Acolyte, Headland talked about Moss’ character and how her role as the leather-clad kung-fu expert inspired Indara's fighting scenes. However, as her fighting style now includes Force moves, her skill is now called Force-fu.

“She is very much inspired by Trinity,” Headland said.

For the director, casting Moss is a “no-brainer.” Though fans may see Indara as “Trinity with a lightsaber,” it’s the real intention. The Russian Doll creator revealed she wanted to see someone who could be deemed the most powerful Jedi in the series, making her think of Trinity.

“I personally wanted to see someone who had the highest status you could imagine in a Force-fu fight,” she continued. “Somebody that would come in, and you immediately would be like, ‘Oh, that’s the most powerful Jedi in the room.’ And that’s Trinity,”

Carrie-Anne Moss Stunned by Leslye Headland’s Vision for Star Wars: The Acolyte

Alternatively, Moss also talked about her experience while doing The Acolyte and revealed how she was stunned by Headland’s vision for the series. With her big projects, like The Matrix and Memento, and collaborations with renowned directors, such as Christopher Noland and The Wachowskis, the actress felt Headland knew what she was doing.

“I felt that a few times in my career with some of the big things I’ve done where you’re talking to the filmmaker and you just go, ‘Oh, they totally get it,’” she said.

She also called her experience playing Indara and training for her fight scenes “amazing.” And though a part of her had already forgotten how much she loved the action, she confessed that she was still fond of it, and doing it again excited her.

“I was just really thrilled that I could do it, and I wanted to do it well,” she continued. “Gimme another take! Gimme another take!”
