First announced at the 2022 Star Wars Celebration, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the next project under the franchise that fans have been looking forward to. Many expected it to premiere after Star Wars: Ahsoka, following its announced 2023 release window. However, a copyright filing by Lucasfilm confirmed it was pushed into 2024, probably because of the Hollywood strikes. Thankfully, after the dead silence about its debut, one of the series’ stars, Dane DiLiegro, reveals its possible release window on Disney+.

In an interview with The Direct on the red carpet premiere of his new horror movie, Imaginary, DiLiegro gave a hopeful update about Skeleton Crew’s release. Though he cleared that it was only his prediction, he revealed that the series might premiere before the year ends.

“I'm hoping by the fall. If I were to guess... That's completely surmising,” he said.

Like fans, the actor admitted that he’s also left in the dark about the show’s release date and knows nothing beyond that. However, as Lucasfilm seems fond of releasing new projects around November, he expects it will happen then. He also revealed that the studio is working on something “pretty cool,” which makes him assume it’s Skeleton Crew.

I've been meaning to reach out to our director, David Lowery. He's a friend of mine. But yeah, I don't know. We’ll see. Maybe November. I know Lucasfilm is due for something pretty cool. And I think Skeleton Crew might be that thing.

What is Dane DiLiegro’s role in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?

DiLiegro’s role in Skeleton Crew is yet to be revealed. The 35-year-old teased he would only have a small appearance in the series. But though it would only be short and unimportant, he promised it would be cool.

“It's fun. It's not anything long or substantial,” he said. “But it's just a fun thing. And you know, it's a really cool sequence.”

What is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew about?

Though nothing is known about Skeleton Crew’s storyline yet, its creator, Jon Watts, pitched a story to Lucasfilm to make an Amblin Entertainment-like coming-of-age series set in the Star Wars Universe. Its exclusive footage was unveiled at the Star Wars Celebration and introduced four kids, a boy, two girls, and a little alien, living in a forested world. Like other Amblin-inspired projects, the kids do the usual things, like going to school and having adventures.

However, a different adventure begins when they leave the planet aboard a starship. The kids land on what looks like Ortolan and meet various creatures and pirates, including Vane, a Nikto scoundrel introduced in The Mandalorian Season 3. At the end of the sneak peek, they manage to escape prison with the help of Law’s character.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew New Plot Description Reportedly Revealed

Despite the assumptions that Skeleton Crew will be the next live-action Star Wars series released after Ahsoka, it looks like Star Wars: The Acolyte will come out before it. The story about the High Republic Era reportedly has a summer 2024 release window. However, fans should only take these assumptions with a grain of salt as both Lucasfilm and Disney+ have yet to confirm anything. That said, we still have to wait for an official announcement.
