Star Wars Hints at New Spinoff After Confirming Echo’s Departure from The Bad Batch

After Rex joins Captain Rex to help free clones across the galaxy, it looks like a Star Wars: The Bad Batch spinoff centering on this story will be in the works.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3 will be the last time fans are about to see Omega and Clone Force 99 working together against the Empire. But as the franchise’s data bank has confirmed Echo’s departure from the group, it looks like it’s just hinting at a new spinoff centering on Captain Rex, Echo, and the Clones continuing their battle against Palpatine’s New Order.

Echo's return in The Bad Batch Season 3 Episode 5, The Return, is a triumphant one. He has been away from the series after joining forces with Rex to aid the clones across the galaxy. What's more, Echo’s character has undergone a significant transformation. He has stepped into a more assertive and self-assured role, leading the mission to recover crucial data on Tantiss.

But though Echo is known for being a part of Clone Force 99, joining the group in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the franchise’s databank confirms he’s no longer a member of The Bad Batch and even describes him as a former colleague. Aside from this revelation, his character description also teases a possible spinoff with his new mission with Rex.

“Echo, formerly of the 501st and the Bad Batch, has joined his old friend Captain Rex on a new mission to help his clone brothers,” it reads.

Will there be a new The Bad Batch spinoff featuring Rex and Echo?

Though Lucasfilm has remained mum about the future of Rex and Echo after The Bad Batch Season 3, it looks like the latter’s character description hints at a new spinoff featuring the two. Aside from Echo, Rex has also made a big return to the series’ final season’s back-to-back Episodes 6 and 7, Infiltration and Extraction.

The Ghost crew found Rex, alongside Gregor and Wolffe, hiding on a desolate planet, seemingly setting up the groundwork for a new spinoff telling how he went from his current mission to retirement. In addition, Echo began working with him in The Bad Batch Season 2, and many wonder if their mission to save the other clones can be told in a new story.

Echo has been working with Rex to free the clones across the galaxy amid the threat of the Empire, and their journey can work out as a new Star Wars animated series. If this happens, it will fill the gap in Rex’s life between The Bad Batch and Star Wars Rebels, continuing the legacy of The Clone Wars.
