Lucasfilm has finally revealed more information about its new Star Wars series, The Acolyte. Alongside the introduction of new characters, such as Jedi Master Sol and Mae, it also brings the live-action debut of Vernestra Rwoh. A character revered from the High Republic Era, fans who have delved into the books about the height of the Galactic Republic are now likely brimming with excitement at the prospect of seeing her on the small screen. But aside from Vern, many eagerly anticipate seeing her unique lightsaber, which transforms into a lightwhip.
Lucasfilm has just confirmed the live-action debut of Rwoh’s rare weapon in The Acolyte. While it may not have appeared in its first trailer, Star Wars’ databank has provided more details about the Jedi Master and her laser sword. It even reveals the color of the lightsaber she wields, showcasing its unique ability and Vern’s deep-seated love and loyalty to the Jedi Order.
“With a purple-bladed lightsaber that can change into a lightwhip, young Rwoh led with unwavering faith in the Force and devotion to the Jedi Order,” it reads.
Rwoh’s sword may seem ordinary with its single blade, but it can transform into something extraordinary after modifying it into a weapon that can switch between a lightsaber and a lightwhip. The lightwhip contains multiple plasma blades in “flexible containment shields.” However, despite its unique ability, it has less cutting power and needs extra care. Using it also requires skills and precision to keep its tendrils under control. But don’t underestimate this weapon, as it has been proven effective in capturing and entangling enemies.

Who is Vernestra Rwoh in Star Wars: The Acolyte?
Rwoh is an elder Jedi Master who lived during the High Republic Era. At the young age of 15, she became one of the youngest Jedi Knights, ascending the ranks of the Jedi from a teenage prodigy to a leader in the Jedi Order. She’s a former Padawan of Jedi Master Stellan Gios and has solidified her status as a prodigy when she took Imri Cantaros as her apprentice.
However, her life starts to change after the fall of Starlight Beacon. While mourning those lost in the destruction, including her Padawan Cantaros, Rwoh leaves the Jedi Order and focuses on herself to heal.
In an interview with Collider, The Acolyte’s showrunner Leslye Headland confirmed Rwoh is the only character from the High Republic Era that will be part of the series. After confirming the possible continuation of the show with a second season, its creator revealed she’s saving some people to be featured in the next installment.
