Star Wars: Here's Why Thrawn Heading For Dathomir Means Big Things for the MandoVerse

Could this mean we're getting a Heir of the Empire movie from Dave Filoni?

The conclusion of Ahsoka Season 1 has raised intriguing possibilities regarding the role of Grand Admiral Thrawn in Dave Filoni's upcoming MandoVerse movie. This was strongly suggested when Lars Mikkelsen's Imperial officer made his way to Dathomir with some suspicious cargo and the company of the Great Mothers.

Thrawn's primary objective throughout Ahsoka was to escape Peridea and return to the Star Wars galaxy, aiming to revive the Empire and restore Emperor Palpatine's dominion. His plan was slowly unveiled throughout the series and it was even confirmed that he had awakened and forged an alliance with the Great Mothers, who are clearly eager to Peridea as well.

Ahsoka concluded with Grand Admiral Thrawn successfully evading Peridea and re-entering the Star Wars galaxy. His journey included taking the Great Mothers of Dathomir along with him, and the last glimpse of him showed him heading to the witches' home planet with a cargo hold containing caskets, presumably holding deceased stormtroopers.

This brief but significant scene suggests that Thrawn will maintain his alliance with the Great Mothers, offering his protection and support in exchange for their services. Dathomir could potentially serve as both the residence of the Great Mothers and Thrawn's strategic base as he embarks on the task of rebuilding the Empire.

As news of Thrawn's return and affiliation with the Great Mothers spreads throughout the New Republic, swift action will be required to contain the situation. However, this endeavor will prove challenging due to Thrawn's meticulous planning. His alliance with the Great Mothers provides him with a substantial army, as he can resurrect stormtroopers into Night Troopers through their mystical abilities, effectively granting him access to an inexhaustible force.

Notably, this scenario shares similarities with Thrawn's strategy outlined in the 1990s Heir to the Empire book trilogy, which serves as an inspiration for Dave Filoni's narrative. However, rather than relying on cloning technology at Mount Tantiss, Thrawn's resurgence involves harnessing the powers of the Nightsisters or Great Mothers to bolster his military might.

Is Dave Filoni setting up a live-action Heir to the Empire movie?

Star Wars fans are wondering if we're getting a live-action adaptation of Tim Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy. Filoni is already set to direct the culminating feature film for the MandoVerse and he had previously affirmed that Thrawn would unquestionably serve as the central antagonist during the New Republic era. The declaration fueled fan speculation about Thrawn's pivotal role in Filoni's forthcoming movie, with the Ahsoka season finale further reinforcing this theory.
