The character Baylan Skoll, portrayed by the late Ray Stevenson, made a compelling impact in the Ahsoka series on Disney+. A Force user seeking knowledge from both the Light and Dark sides, Baylan's intriguing storyline took an unexpected turn with Stevenson's untimely passing before the Star Wars series' release. However, it looks like the story is far from over. Dave Filoni expressed the desire to delve further into Baylan's story.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Filoni spoke about working with Stevenson on the first season of Ahsoka. The new Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer confirmed that he is hoping to continue exploring Baylan's story in the future.

"Obviously, there’s a story there," Filoni said. "We’re in a wait-and-see pattern at this point. But I’m glad the conversation is about Ray and how great he was…. I used to have mini debates with him and say, ‘Ray, you’re the villain here.’ And he’d be like, ‘I don’t think so.’ I was like, ‘I know you don’t think so, but you are. I love that you’re playing it like you’re not.’ Which is exactly the way Baylan thinks."

It's a promising statement that opens up the possibilities of the future exploration of Baylan's future and hopefully give the character a proper ending in the Star Wars Universe.

Baylan Skoll's Role in the Star Wars Universe

In the Mandalorian spinoff, Baylan Skoll served as a mentor to Shin Hati, played by Ivanna Sakhno. Despite Baylan's training, Hati's attempts to defeat Sabine Wren ended in her defeat. The series left Baylan contemplating a new future after being left behind by Grand Admiral Thrawn, offering potential for further exploration.

As Ahsoka's story unfolds, the prospect of a second season on Disney+ remains uncertain. Even if additional episodes aren't pursued, Filoni is set to direct a theatrical release featuring the series' storylines. While Skoll's journey may continue in the movie, an official decision is pending from Lucasfilm.

Baylan Skoll's character brought depth to Ahsoka, with enigmatic motives and a mysterious connection to Anakin Skywalker. His dynamic with Padawan Shin Hati added complexity, making him a significant highlight. Notably, Skoll's intense battles with Ahsoka showcased his formidable presence and challenged the former Jedi.

With the unfortunate passing of Ray Stevenson, Lucasfilm faces the challenge of continuing Baylan's story while honoring the actor's memory. Options include recasting, exploring alternative narratives, or utilizing existing footage for closure. The decision will be crucial in maintaining the integrity of the character and respecting Stevenson's contribution to the Star Wars universe.
