If there's one thing that viewers have come to expect in every new episode of Ahsoka, it would be the increasingly intriguing Baylan Skoll whose motives are still a mystery. And as expected, the former Jedi surprised everyone yet again with his sudden decision that left everyone confused about his grand plan.
In Ahsoka Episode 7, Baylan and Shin Hati managed to track down Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger who had been travelling with a native Noti village. But instead of joining Shin and the bandits they teamed up with, Baylan tells her to complete the task on her own because his path lies in another direction. Still, he leaves his Apprentice with a parting lesson: "Impatience for victory will guarantee defeat."
Although Baylan didn't join the fight, he ended up in one on his own when he encounters Ahsoka Tano who has arrived in Peridea in search of Sabine and Ezra. He immediately engages her in a fight because he can't let her "interfere" but with what, we're not exactly sure. They fight quickly before Ahsoka distracts Baylan and rides away on his Howler. Instead of chasing after her, he goes on his own way.
While nobody else has noticed Baylan is up to something, Grand Admiral Thrawn continues to be distrustful of the mercenary. He immediately notes that Baylan is missing from the fight.
So what exactly is Baylan up to? We already know that he senses something in Peridea and claims it is calling to him. There is a possibility that Baylan is off to find out what is out there and his actions could either help Thrawn escape the galaxy or aid Ahsoka and her companions in stopping the villain.
We're certainly loving Baylan's complicated and mysterious ways and there is little doubt all the intrigue is possible because he is portrayed by the late Ray Stevenson. It is truly unfortunate that Stevenson's passing could mean that this is the only time we'll get to see Baylan in action.
Baylan returns in Ahsoka Episode 8, which will serve as the series finale. The final episode will premiere on Disney+ on October 3, 2023.
