The story of Cassian Andor will soon end in the upcoming Star Wars: Andor Season 2. The second and final season will see how the fan-favorite assassin will work his way as an official member of the Rebel Alliance and the Rebellion as the series gets closer to the events of Gareth Edwards’ 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. As many want to know how these two much-loved Star Wars projects will eventually connect to each other, lead star Diego Luna teases how the second season will end.

In an interview with IMDb, Luna described Andor Season 2 as “complicated” as it would bridge the gap between the first season and Rogue One. The premiere season occurred five years before the events of the critically acclaimed movie, giving viewers an overview of Cassian’s life before he joined the Rebellion. Since the final season will cover the remaining four years of Cassian’s life leading up to Rogue One, the actor teased that a lot is about to happen.

“There’s like five different planets, so many characters that you know already, either from Season 1 or because you know what happens in Rogue One,” he said. “So the season ends minutes before, you know, he steps into Rogue One.”

The 44-year-old star also discussed the arrival of a “very important droid.” At D23 2024, it was revealed that Alan Tudyk would return to the Disney+ series to reprise his role as K-2SO. Given K-2SO's crucial role in Rogue One, where he sacrificed himself to help Cassian and Jyn Erso steal the Death Star blueprints, he is also expected to play an important part in the second season.

However, he won’t be the only familiar face returning, as the arrivals of Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera and Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic were also announced. That said, Luna believed fans would want to watch Rogue One gain as Andor Season 2 would give a new perspective on the film.

“There are so many characters that you will go, 'Oh sh*t. Oh my god, really!'” he continued. “I think audiences are going to want to watch Rogue One again after watching Season 2. You are going to see it from a different perspective.”

Diego Luna Reflects on His 10-Year Journey as Cassian Andor in Star Wars

As Luna’s time in the galaxy far, far away is about to end, he reflects on his 10-year journey in Star Wars, playing Cassian first in Rogue One and then in Andor. Being part of a huge franchise like this is an honor for anyone. So, the Mexican actor isn’t only grateful for his long and exciting adventure. He’s also deeply touched by fans’ appreciation for his character and the story they’re telling.

“I've received a lot of appreciation for the story we're telling,” he revealed. “People are very enthusiastic.”

In a decade, Luna has been part of something that “matters to people,” which he finds very special. He understands that being involved in a project that holds such significance for the audience doesn’t happen every so often. So, given the positive response they’ve received, he is truly thankful.

“We worked really hard, almost three years of our lives to do one season,” he continued. “So yeah, the way it was received was very special to me.”
