During the height of a global pandemic, a cultural phenomenon made its way on Netflix with the South Korean series Squid Game. The series was so popular that the second season was immediately given a green light only a few months after the release of the first and the series even got its very own reality TV shown on the streaming platform titled Squid Game: The Challenge which further cemented the name of the series in popular culture as it also scored another season. Now, Netflix is riding the success of the title as they revealed that a Squid Game video game is under development.
Netflix recently ventured into games and while the streamer is still in the process of growing Netflix Games, a new post on Netflix's official website where the VP for Netflix Games, Mike Verdu made a statement and a few announcements while they celebrate their small wins reveals the following: "A game set in the universe of Squid Game, in which you can compete with other players in games from the hit series." These were the only words from the notice of Netflix's VP for Games alongside other game announcements on the streaming platform.
So far, it is only the concept of an upcoming game has been released. There were no other details shared by Netflix Games aside from the game being set in the Squid Game world and that the players can compete with others through the games that were featured from the hit series. Neither a launch window not a release date has been provided by Netflix.

Netflix Games is just starting and they already launched 40 games on the platform. Among those games were Grand Theft Auto Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, Football Manager 24 Mobile, and Storyteller. Two of the first games developed by Netflix were also mentioned with Oxenfree II: Lost Signals from Night School, and Netflix Stories Love is Blind from Boss Fight Entertainment. There is also the sequel to the beloved Cozy Grove life sim game, Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit from Spry Fox coming in 2024 alongside FashionVerse, Game Dev Tycoon, Sonic Mania Plus, and more.
For the Squid Game video game, the scope of it may be smaller than what players would expect or envision since Netflix games is focused on the creation of titles for mobile devices. Thus, the Squid Game video game will not be anything close to AAA in nature.
The Squid Game video game has no release date yet.
