Netflix finally released the final episode of Squid Game: The Challenge, which revealed the grand winner of the whopping $4.56 million prize. There were only three players left, Player 016 (Sam), Player 287 (Mai), and Player 451 (Phill), who tried their luck to change their lives with the multimillion pot money. So, who won among these three?

Mai came out as the big winner for the first season of Squid Game: The Challenge. But before that happened, the three remaining players were treated to a lavish dinner. True to the show’s fashion, the treat ended with another challenge. Mai, Phill, and Same had to press one of three buttons.

How Mai won Squid Game: The Challenge?

Mai got the gray button, which had no impact on her, while Sam got red, meaning he was instantly eliminated. So, Phill got green, leaving him to compete with Mai. The two played a rock, paper, scissors game. The player who would win every round would have a chance to select a key to open a safe. As Mai chose the right key, a gold credit card loaded with her $4.56 million prize was revealed. Before the series ended, it gave a glimpse into the other players’ lives, like the mother/son duo Trey and LeAnn, Phil on a boat, Stephen with his family, and the fan-favorite beekeeper, Rick.

Will there be Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2?

Before the first season finale’s release, Netflix announced Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2. The streamer shared a brief teaser on X (formerly Twitter) featuring a recap of the first season’s events and several fan comments lauding the series for featuring numerous epic games. The clip ended with a claw machine catching a green bear with the words, “Squid Game: The Challenge Returning for a Season 2.”

Before the 10th episode rolled the credits, it set up the show’s return by showing the infamous shapes card, just like how the players in the original Hwang Dong Hyuk series, on which the reality game show is based, got their invites to join the game. It was later revealed to be a casting call for the potential new players that is now open.
