Square Enix has confirmed that two of its prominent mobile games, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars, will cease operations in Japan on October 31, 2025, at noon. Both titles, which debuted in 2015, have sustained a decade-long presence in the mobile gaming landscape, amassing dedicated player bases and significant milestones. The announcement, shared via the official X accounts of the respective games, marks the end of an era for these beloved RPGs.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: A Decade of Adventure

Launched in 2015, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius has been a cornerstone of Square Enix’s mobile portfolio, captivating players with its rich narrative and strategic gameplay across five seasons. To commemorate its closure, the game’s developers have introduced a “Grand Finale Campaign,” which began on August 25, 2025. This campaign promises exclusive content, spotlighting the iconic characters and storylines that defined the game’s legacy.

The operations team expressed deep appreciation in their statement: “To all the fans who have played Final Fantasy Brave Exvius for 10 long years, the entire operations team expresses our heartfelt gratitude.” As part of the shutdown process, in-game purchases were halted as of August 25, ensuring no further billing occurs during the game’s final months.

Additionally, Square Enix plans to release a “Memorial Edition” application for iOS and Android post-shutdown. This offline version will allow players to revisit their collected units and vision cards, preserving a piece of the game’s legacy for fans to cherish.

Dragon Quest of the Stars: A Celestial Journey Concludes

Similarly, Dragon Quest of the Stars, another 2015 release, will end its Japanese service on the same date, October 31, 2025. The game previously saw its global version discontinued in 2021, leaving the Japanese edition as its final stronghold. The development team cited challenges in maintaining a service level that meets player expectations as the primary reason for the closure.

In the lead-up to the shutdown, Dragon Quest of the Stars will continue to host new events, including special content celebrating its 10th anniversary. These events aim to provide players with a memorable farewell. Square Enix has also outlined plans for refunds on unused premium currency, adhering to Japan’s Payment Services Act. Subscription services, such as the Star Adventurer Passport, ceased renewals on August 25, aligning with the company’s preparations for the game’s closure.
