Spider-Man: No Way Home originally included a thrilling showdown between Zendaya's Michelle Jones (MJ) and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, although the scene ultimately didn't make it into the final cut. Concept art from the movie has now surfaced, offering a glimpse of what could have been.
Marvel Studios concept artist Phil Saunders shared the deleted moment on ArtStation, describing it as one of the most enjoyable keyframes he worked on for No Way Home. In this scene, MJ was poised to drop onto the Green Goblin's back after he had stabbed Spider-Man, with Zendaya's character wielding an antidote needle to stop Norman Osborn's villainous transformation. Check it out here.
Throughout the film, the Green Goblin evolved into the ultimate antagonist, unleashing his fury on the trio of Peter Parkers. Willem Dafoe embraced the unhinged nature of his iconic Spider-Man villain. While Zendaya's character didn't engage in much physical combat, she still contributed to one of the movie's iconic moments.
In one scene, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man heroically caught her in mid-air as she fell from the Statue of Liberty, serving as a redemption of sorts for his character, who had failed to save Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Though the MJ vs. Green Goblin showdown didn't make it into the final film, it remains an exciting glimpse into the creative process behind Spider-Man: No Way Home.
We would have loved MJ becoming a bigger part of No Way Home but it also makes sense that she would prefer to stay safe and well away from the villains. Hopefully, we'll get to see more of Zendaya's character in future Spider-Man films.
Will there be Spider-Man 4?
So what are the chances that there will be a fourth Spider-Man film? For now, it is unclear if Peter Parker will get more solo movies or if he is expected to continue appearing in more MCU flicks. Nevertheless, fans are hoping that we'll get to find out whether Peter will be reunited with MJ and Ned.
Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in December 2021. It became the highest-grossing film of the year.
