Starting college at an age when most people are waving their kids off to campus, a meddlesome mother is about to turn an entire neighborhood — and a broadcast station — upside down. KBS 2TV confirmed on October 13 that Lee Jung-eun, Sooyoung, Lee Sung-jae, Jeon Sung-woo, and Kang Seung-yoon will headline its new weekend drama I Went to School, with filming set to begin.

All five actors have finalized their casting, with filming set to begin soon. The story is built around unexpected connections — a mother's bold new chapter forging a family bound by ties stronger than blood.

Lee Jung-eun takes the lead as Yoon Ok-hee, a passionate mother who decides to pursue a college degree later in life in hopes of starting a new chapter. Never one to sit still, Ok-hee takes charge of every neighborhood dispute that crosses her path while also running an instant tteokbokki restaurant, leaving her with barely a free hour in the day.

Her daughter, Kang Eun-ho, brings the friction. Played by Sooyoung (Girls' Generation's Choi Soo-young), Eun-ho is a cynical radio producer-director whose strong "T" personality, in Myers-Briggs terms, keeps her pragmatic and unmoved by emotion. Straightforward to a fault and never shy about speaking her mind, she can come across as blunt or indifferent — but beneath it she is the most dependable person in Ok-hee's corner, supporting her mother's new challenge more fiercely than anyone.

Lee Sung-jae plays Kang Ji-chul, Ok-hee's husband and a once-legendary boxer whose career took an unfortunate turn. A macho husband who acts before he speaks, Ji-chul faces the biggest storm of his life when his wife embarks on her college journey.

Jeon Sung-woo joins as Han Seung-woo, Eun-ho's longtime friend and a leading anchor at KMS Broadcasting Station. Smart, witty, and widely respected for his professional ability, Seung-woo is the one friend Eun-ho has ever allowed to get close — and an unexpected incident awakens feelings he never knew he had, shifting their friendship into something new.

WINNER's Kang Seung-yoon rounds out the cast as Kang Jun, a troublemaking eldest son who is impossible to hate. A man who knows no middle ground, Jun goes overboard with bravado, affability, and brazenness, yet his unexpected charm draws people in. Undeterred by a string of failed business ventures, he dreams of turning his life around with a boxing diet program at his father Ji-chul's boxing gym.

Behind the camera, I Went to School pairs writer Yang Hee-seung — the hitmaker behind Once Again and Crash Course in Romance — with director Lee Woong-hee of The First Night with the Duke. The project marks Yang's return to the KBS weekend drama slot after seven years, a homecoming the network is banking on to anchor its 2027 lineup. The drama is scheduled to premiere in the first half of 2027, following the conclusion of Love on the Menu.
