Son Suk-ku and Park Bo-young are teaming up for the first time, playing husband and wife in a romance with an unusual rule. The two lead Kiss For Tomorrow, a fantasy romantic comedy about a couple whose tomorrows depend on a single daily kiss.
NEW, the film's investor and distributor, confirmed the casting of both actors on November 2. Filming on the movie began on October 31, with production now under way in earnest.
The couple at the center of the story cannot face the next day unless they share a kiss once a day. When an unexpected separation during a cruise trip pulls them apart, the two set out in search of the most desperately longed-for kiss of their lives, in a story that blends romantic comedy with time loops and adventure.
Son Suk-ku plays Ji-kyung, a devoted husband who fell for his wife at first sight and adores her completely. Stranded alone in an unfamiliar place after the separation, Ji-kyung struggles to find his way back to her, showing a hapless yet endearing side that audiences have not often seen from the D.P. and My Liberation Notes star.
Park Bo-young plays Oh-seong, a lovable and energetic wife who finds herself left alone aboard the cruise ship. Oh-seong does everything in her power to reunite with her husband, and the role marks Park Bo-young's first time acting opposite Son Suk-ku. She arrives at the part fresh off acclaimed turns in Concrete Utopia and Light Shop, two of the most talked-about Korean releases of recent years.
The film also reunites Park Bo-young with director Kang Hyung-chul for the first time in 18 years, since Scandal Makers first made her a star. Kang Hyung-chul, also known for Sunny, Tazza: The Hidden Card, Swing Kids and Hi-5, is directing a romance for the first time with Kiss For Tomorrow.
Kang Hyung-chul shared his thoughts as filming got under way. "As time goes by, each film [I make] feels increasingly precious. I will cherish the experience of beginning production today and do my very best to bring audiences a delightful and enjoyable experience," the director said.
NEW has also released the artwork for the film's scenario book, created with illustrator Hyai Shu. The artwork follows the two protagonists through their separate struggles in continuous motion, ending in the passionate kiss the whole story builds toward.
Filming will move between locations across South Korea and overseas, including Singapore and Thailand. Set against a massive cruise ship and exotic landscapes, the film is set to feature colorful visual compositions and a narrative that unfolds at a lively pace, promising a cinematic experience that engages all five senses.
Kiss For Tomorrow does not have a release date yet. NEW will handle the film's release once production wraps.
