A second teaser has been released for Sacred Jewel, and it throws Ahn Bo-hyun's young commander straight into a kingdom on the edge of collapse. The new footage shows Goryeo reduced to ruins by the Mongol invasion, with one sacred relic standing as the nation's last hope of changing its fate.
The teaser comes from JTBC, which will air the historical drama in its weekend slot. It centers on the Gwaneum Boju, a sacred bead believed to hold the power to protect the nation, and the escort party ordered to bring it back through a war zone.
Watch the second teaser here:
Ahn Bo-hyun plays Baek Gyeol, a former member of the royal guard who receives the emperor's orders and becomes the escort unit's special-duty commander. The bead he is sent to retrieve embodies the hopes and wishes of the people, and the teaser follows him as he leads the party onto the mainland.
Claudia Kim plays Wang Hee, the emperor's youngest daughter, who shares a deep bond with Baek Gyeol. Her own story runs alongside the mission, as the princess strives to save the very expedition sent out in the kingdom's name.
Lee Sung-min plays Choi Gu, a war veteran who commands the Yabyeolcho unit and has survived countless battlefields. He wastes no time warning the younger commander, telling him, "Forget everything you know about Goryeo. From now on, you will see the real Goryeo."
The clash between the two men is shaping up as the teaser's central tension, with Baek Gyeol's ideals set against Choi Gu's hard-earned realism. How their conflict plays out is expected to shape the escort party's fate as the journey grows more dangerous.
Ha Yoon-kyung appears as Geol-seung, the party's guide, pressing fearlessly forward against the invaders. Yoon Kyun-sang plays Wang Mu, who defends Wonju Fortress and declares, "Goryeo must be Your Majesty's world," hinting at ambitions of his own.
Baek Gyeol answers the chaos with a vow of his own late in the teaser. "I will fight back and create the reality I want," he says, underlining a commander who refuses to surrender to fate even as the Mongol army advances.
The drama is set in 1258, after more than 30 years of war with the Mongols have brought Goryeo close to defeat. It is directed by Jung Dae-yoon and written by Jung Hyun-min, and produced by SLL and Celltrion Entertainment.
The series has already drawn international attention ahead of its premiere. It was officially invited to the Korea Fiction section of the RENDEZ-VOUS segment at the Cannes International Series Festival, where it was unveiled to overseas audiences.
Sacred Jewel premieres on December 5 at 10:40 p.m. KST on JTBC, and the series will be available to viewers worldwide on Prime Video.
