A third season of the Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles television anime entered production after HJ Bunko officially announced the project during its special livestream on YouTube today. The official Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles website carried the same announcement on September 30, 2026. Premiere timing, episode count, and staff assignments for the new season have not been released.
Hiroshi Kubo, previously an episode director on Chio's School Road, directed Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles Season 2 at TMS Entertainment and WAO World. Season 1 director Osamu Yamasaki shifted into a supervising role on that sequel and stayed on as series composer. Kyoko Yufu and Yasuyuki Yamazaki also came back as character designer and music composer.
What is Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles about?
Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles is an isekai reincarnation fantasy light novel series written by Yuri Kitayama and illustrated by Riv. Hobby Japan publishes the print edition under its HJ Bunko imprint. Kitayama first serialized the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website from February 2014 to October 2020, and the tankōbon run began in October 2015.
The novels mix action, adventure, romance, and court intrigue around a boy who carries two lives at once. Rio grows up as an orphan in the slums of a sword-and-sorcery world until, at age seven, he recovers the memories of Haruto Amakawa, a Japanese university student who died in an accident. Those memories arrive with enormous magical power, and the story follows how Rio uses that power while navigating nobles, spirits, and unfinished business from both lives.
The franchise has several manga adaptations. An early Comic Fire version drawn by tenkla ran from October 2016 to February 2017 before it ended. Futago Minaduki launched the main ongoing manga adaptation in 2017, also on Comic Fire. A separate spin-off manga, Seirei Gensouki: Konna Sekai de Deaeta Kimi ni, retells events from Celia Claire’s point of view.
J-Novel Club licenses the light novels and Futago Minaduki’s manga in English. The publisher describes the opening of the series this way:

TMS Entertainment produced the first anime season, which aired in Japan from July to September 2021 on TV Tokyo, BS Fuji, and AT-X. The second season followed from October to December 2024 and continued Rio’s story after his return to the Strahl region and his reunion with people tied to both of his lives. Neither the livestream nor the official site named a studio or director for Season 3, so it remains unclear whether the Season 2 team will return in the same roles.
The first two seasons of Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles are streaming on Crunchyroll with Japanese audio and multiple subtitle tracks, and Crunchyroll also carries an English dub. Viewers who want the full setup before Season 3 arrives can start with Rio’s slum years and academy arc, then move into the second season’s confrontations and reunions while waiting for the next production update.
