Marvel's Secret Invasion faced a huge blow after failing to reach the same level of viewership as other shows in the franchise. What happened on screen was a big setback for the MCU and the real reason on what went wrong traces back to the people behind the series. Revealed is why it went straight down the drain.

Secret Invasion did not turn out to be as promising as other shows under the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one of the possible reasons for it is that the management faced struggles on whosoever gets the power over the series. The MCU had the potential to expand through TV shows but Secret Invasion did not pull it off, making it the worst-reviewed series in the franchise. It all dated back to the pre-production of the show.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the setbacks that Secret Invasion struggled with started with the the changes with the people working on the series. Kyle Bradstreet was fired after working on Secret Invasion for a year, then Brian Tucker was put in his place with Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim directing the series. Later, Bezucha left the show because of conflicts in schedule.

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel's head of streaming, revealed in the same article:

It's a term we've not only grown comfortable with but also learned to embrace… We need executives that are dedicated to this medium, that are going to focus on streaming, focus on television, because they are two different forms. We're trying to marry the Marvel culture with the traditional television culture. It comes down to, 'How can we tell stories in television that honor what's so great about the source material?'

In the same report, an insider reveals that the pre-production of Secret Invasion was heavily affected by those vying for power over the show, “It was weeks of people not getting along, and it erupted." The whole project was affected with these changes behind the scenes that it might have actually translated into the finished product. Some parts seemed rushed, some were incomplete or irrelevant, or while relevant, it was too abrupt.

Supposedly, MCU shows would bridge the gap between the various blockbuster films that the franchise releases. The establishment of the narrative did not materialize on the finished product of Secret Invasion. No matter how hard it is to reconcile the difference between the creative takes of each of the people working on the show, it pushed through like a half-cooked pie.

To date, there is still no confirmation whether there would be Secret Invasion but if and when that would happen, the numbers don't lie. While the MCU is one of the biggest franchises in existence, when one show does not get the same viewership as others, that would be one of the considerations not to renew a series for another run.

All the episodes of Secret Invasion are now available to stream on Disney Plus.
