Rockstar Games Upset Over The GTA 6 Trailer Leak - “This f***ing sucks”

One of the worst things that can occur to a developer is seeing their game’s trailer leak earlier than it was initially planned, especially when the developer is Rockstar Games, which rarely has anything new to share with fans. The studio originally planned on launching GTA 6’s reveal trailer in the morning. Fans were so hyped about it that thousands of them were simply lounging around in the livestream chat 24 hours before the release.

However, yesterday, the entire trailer was leaked onto X (formerly Twitter) with an unpleasant crypto watermark stamped on the center of the screen. This move seemed to have struck a nerve in Rockstar Games since the leaker’s account was suspended. Not only this but instead of letting the somewhat obscured version of the trailer stay on the internet for the next 12 hours, the developers acknowledged the leak and went ahead and officially posted the trailer on YouTube earlier than planned.

It’s a pretty impressive trailer, but multiple Rockstar Games employees are still frustrated with the fact that their massive reveal was moved forward because of a leak, and we can’t blame them for feeling so. Javier Altman, the senior gameplay animator at Rockstar Games, wrote on X, "This f**king sucks."

In a follow-up comment, he wrote, "I was hoping to watch this for the first time tomorrow along with my fellow teammates and coworkers. I feel we deserved that moment." Angel Ortiz, Rockstar’s graphics programmer, claims that he isn’t watching the trailer yet until he can see it with people "who worked so f**king hard to make it happen."

The game’s senior programmer, Connor, wasn’t afraid to shout out his disappointment by writing, "F**KING SERIOUSLY???" He then continued in a follow-up comment, "Sorry for the rage, but the trailer leak is just so disheartening. I was really looking forward to watching the premier with everyone. A lot of people were."

Phil Beveridge, the senior gameplay designer, shared the trailer with the comment, “Enjoy folks. Would have been nice to do this with all of you at the same time." Regardless, many Rockstar developers are still making the most and enjoying the excitement, including one particular developer who previously worked on GTA 6 for years before shifting to Infinity Ward.

Plenty of other developers are upset that it "had to happen this way,” but they are still excited to share the first look of their game with the world. Rockstar’s associate game systems engineer Zara Naveed said, "Sad that it came out this way, but couldn’t be more excited to be working on an amazing project with amazing people."

Furthermore, AI/gameplay programmer Matthew Rennie wrote, "Shame it had to be released like this, but so excited to finally get to show off what we’ve been cooking." While the trailer reveal didn’t go as planned, it must’ve felt good for the developers to finally share a glimpse of their secretive project that they’re really proud of with the fans.

GTA 6 will launch on Xbox and PlayStation in 2025, but no PC date was officially announced. This might mean that Rockstar Games is planning on following the Red Dead Redemption 2 protocol, where the PC version comes sometime after the launch.
