Something major happened at the end of the recent One Piece Chapter 1092, which ended in a big cliffhanger. After transforming into Luffy's Gear 5, a prehistoric robot’s eyes light up, seemingly hinting at the connection of his Gomu Gomu no Mi’s awakened form to an ancient power.

One Piece Chapter 1092 continues the Egghead Arc, where the mystery behind Nefertari Cobra’s death will be revealed. Here, Luffy had to transform into his Gear 5 after Kizaru bypassed Labophase’s defenses, where Vegapunk and the Straw Hats were. However, something unexpected occurred after his transformation, and the sound of his heartbeat reached the bottom of the Fabiriophase, activating the Iron Giant.

Immediately, fans couldn’t help but compare this scene to what they saw in One Piece Chapter 1043, where an Iron Giant had also awakened. So, by the looks of it, his transformation is signaling something to the Iron Giant, and its activation may have something to do with the captain’s Drums of Liberation. Hence, there are theories that his Gear 5 has a connection to a power from ancient times.

Does Luffy’s Gear 5 have a connection to ancient powers?

This isn’t the first time Luffy’s Gear 5 hints at its connection to ancient powers. Back in the Wano Saga, when this transformation debuted, the Drums of Liberation had affected Zunesha. This ability could also resonate with some of the most ancient powers in the world, with some theorizing that Gear 5 and its drum rhythm were connected to the world even before the World Government dominated it.

There seems to be a secret connection between the two, and the Iron Giant’s awakening may explain what it could be. It has been known that Gear 5 gives Luffy the power of an ancient hero, Nika, the enslaved people’s champion of freedom and liberation. That said, it may have another old power connection that may soon be revealed.

What is the Iron Giant in One Piece?

In One Piece, the Iron Giant is a legendary robot that attacked Mary Geoise 200 years ago. It was created during the Void Century 900 years in the past. Due to being out of energy, this ancient robot has remained inactive and kept on Egghead.

But after hearing Luffy’s Drums of Liberation, it becomes activated, powering it back online. By the looks of it, more about this Iron Giant will be revealed when One Piece Chapter 1093 releases on September 24.
