Nue's Exorcist TV Anime Adaptation Announced With First Teaser Trailer

A fan-favorite Jump manga gets its wish — Nue's Exorcist heads to TV with its first teaser.

The October 12 Jump Press showcase delivered the news Weekly Shonen Jump readers have been waiting for: Kota Kawae's Nue's Exorcist is getting a TV anime adaptation, set to broadcast in summer 2027. The announcement arrived alongside a teaser visual and a teaser trailer introducing the supernatural school battle series to the screen.

The Jump Press livestream confirmed the adaptation and revealed the production's core staff and first three cast members. The teaser visual carries a tagline about fighting "to choose a path where no one gets hurt," setting the tone for Gakuro Yajima's reluctant journey into the world of exorcists. The teaser trailer offers a first animated look at Gakuro and Nue, along with glimpses of the spirits haunting their school.

Gakuro Yajima lunges forward with a huge glowing red blade trailing flames and embers, while Nue — with her long black hair, small horns, and red eyes — stands behind him with a calm, confident look. The tagline reads "Fight — to choose a path where no one is hurt," and the visual confirms the series will air across the TV Asahi nationwide network in summer 2027.

What is Nue's Exorcist about?

Nue's Exorcist (Japanese: Nue no Onmyōji) is a supernatural action manga written and illustrated by Kota Kawae. It began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2023 and has been collected into 16 volumes in Japan. The series has built a devoted following: it ranked first in AnimeJapan 2025's "Manga We Want to See Animated" poll, which drew more than 156,000 votes. Viz Media publishes the manga in English in both digital and print editions, and it is also available on Manga Plus.

Viz Media's official synopsis:

Outcast Gakuro Yajima's only goal in life has been to avoid spirits and try to live in peace. One day, he accidentally enters a sealed room and meets Nue, a quirky spirit who asks him to defeat the evil ones roaming his school.

The story follows Gakuro, a boy who has been able to see spirits since childhood, after a fateful encounter with Nue — a powerful, video game-loving spirit dwelling in a hidden room at his high school. When a violent spirit leaves him mortally wounded, Gakuro forms a contract with Nue, borrowing her power on the condition that he help vanquish evil spirits alongside local exorcists who remain wary of her.
