New Pokémon Anime About Postal Service Dragonite Reveals New Trailer & Preview Stills

The new trailer for the special Pokémon anime features the anime's theme song.

Next week, the new Pokémon anime Kairyu to Yubinyasan (Dragonite and the Mail Carrier) will be released just in time to celebrate Pokémon Day. A new trailer and preview stills for the upcoming anime have been released today, previewing what to expect from the anime produced by CoMix Wave Films (Makoto Shinkai's films). The anime is scheduled to premiere on Pokémon’s official YouTube channel on February 27 at 11:00 p.m. JST (9:00 a.m. EST), and was also confirmed that the special anime will run for about 14 minutes.

The trailer features previews the anime's theme song Kami Hikōki (Paper Airplane), performed by yorushika vocast, suis, and composed by Evan Call. The protagonist Hana will be voiced by Riko Fukumoto, who's known for playing Rinrin Takahashi in the live-action Trillion Game TV series. Watch the new trailer for Kairyu to Yubinyasan below:

The anime's story follows Hana, a young girl who dreams of becoming a postal worker like Dragonite. One day, she receives a letter addressed to no one, and embarks on a quest to search for the sender alongside her trusty Fuecoco, heading out into town. She meets the sender, named Rio, who apparently wants to send the letter to his father working abroad in the Kanto region. But as his father's Birthday is approaching soon, it seems like there is no time for the letter to arrive to him.

Taku Kimura (Star Wars: Visions "Tattooine Rhapsody," Osana Najimi no Carbou) is directing and storyboarding the special anime, with Kentaro Nana as the script writer; Asuka Dokai (Snorunt's Summer Vacation) as the character designer; Maho Aoki as the chief animation director and character designer; Tasuku Watanabe as the art director; Evan Call as the music composer.

In an interview regarding the upcoming, director Taku Kimura said, “Since it’s the 29th anniversary, we made an effort to include Pokémon from various series. Structurally, the story is designed to gradually trace back through past series, starting from the Paldea region.”

Screenwriter Kentaro Nana shared a comment about a scene featuring Kyogre: “Visually, it left a strong impression, and I felt it would work well in a particularly exciting part of the story. Director Kimura added some fantastic direction to it, so I hope the audience enjoys it.”
