Greta Gerwig has recently made it big in Hollywood as she brings a new flavor to the movies in today's age. With such a stature in the industry today, she became a highly coveted director in today's age and recently, she has been chosen to lead the charge for the newest adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia which will be under Netflix. As Netflix expands their IP, the director intends to put an "extra care" in bringing the C.S. Lewis to life on Netflix after the previous Disney adaptation.

Known for the movies she directed such as Lady Bird, Little Women, and recently bringing a splash of pink to the world with Barbie, Greta Gerwig gets another big project entrusted to her as she will be directing a classic of C.S. Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia. The title had a trilogy in the 2000s under Walt Disney Pictures and the new version will be happening under Netflix. Speaking with BBC Radio 4's Today (via Deadline), Greta Gerwig shared her plans for The Chronicles of Narnia where she intends to put an "extra care" on the IP:

I'm slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia. I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I'm intimidated by doing this. It's something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by. As a non-British person, I feel a particular sense of wanting to do it correctly... it's like when Americans do Shakespeare, there's a slight feeling of reverence and as if maybe we should treat it with extra care. It is not our countryman.

Greta Gerwig makes a careful decision as she considers herself a "non-British person" bringing a British book series to life and the director wants to do it right for the C.S. Lewis classic. Despite feeling intimidated, Greta Gerwig has brought various projects previously with such precision that her movies became a success instantly. Greta Gerwig's The Chronicles of Narnia on Netflix eyes for a 2024 start of production but there are no cast members announced yet.

C.S. Lewis written The Chronicles of Narnia as a series of seven fantasy novels in the early 1950s and since then, Narnia has been adapted into radio dramas, stage plays, television, video games, and movies. In the 2000s, Walt Disney Pictures made a movie adaptation of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader but it was discontinued. The Chronicles of Narnia introduces everyone into the world behind the wardrobe where magic meets myths, and the Pevensie siblings stumbled upon it one day.

The Chronicles of Narnia brings the four siblings into an adventure of a lifetime and surprisingly, they were prophesized to be the saviors of the place from the cold spell of the Ice Queen Jadis. The siblings called upon the help of the Lion, Aslan, and they became the heroes and kings and queens of Narnia before going back home. Throughout the seven books, the siblings come and go through Narnia, and even brought their cousin Eustace in the mix.
