The fans are still waiting for the second season of Good Omens but Neil Gaiman is already looking towards the future. The novel's co-author has just revealed that there are already plans for Good Omens Season 3 and it isn't something new that he has been working on.
The first season of Good Omens has already adapted the entire book and Gaiman's co-author Terry Pratchett had passed away long before they could write a second novel. Still, fans were pleased when it was announced that the series adaptation will get a second season.
But what about a third season? Neil Gaiman revealed to SFX Magazine that Good Omens Season 3 could happen because he and Pratchett had already mapped out their plans beyond the first book.
"Because the hypothetical Season 3 exists, there is a story that is there, and I didn’t feel that we could drive straight from season one into that," Gaiman said. He further explained that they are ready for the third season because the show has David Tennant and Michael Sheen as Crowley and Aziraphale.
"I knew what the stakes were. I knew what the parameters were. I also knew that I had David and Michael," Gaiman continued.
"I had the angels from plot number one. I had demons from plot number one. And with anybody that I wanted to bring back, but didn’t have room for right now, I did not have to bring them back as themselves," he concluded.
We're certainly glad that Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett have already figured out what would happen in Good Omens Season 3.
But before all that, what can we look forward to in the second season? The trailer for Good Omens Season 2 confirmed that Aziraphale and Crowley will end up having Gabriel in their custody after the angel loses his memory. However, they will need to do more than just babysit an angel as several forces are eager to get their hands on Gabriel.
From there, we're wondering which way the story will go. With that in mind, we're expecting the series to be renewed for a third season very soon.
Good Omens Season 2 will also bring back Jon Hamm as Angel Gabriel. The second season will consist of six episodes which will all premiere on Amazon Prime on July 28, 2023.
