Insomniac Games surprised fans with a new gameplay trailer of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at the spontaneous PlayStation State of Play. The whole appearance of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was unexpected by fans, since the showcase was only going to feature third-party titles and VR. However, it also isn’t completely out of the blue since the game's previews have been going around lately. Either way, we’re just glad Insomniac somehow managed to enter the State of Play to share the gameplay trailer of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
The senior creative director of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Bryan Intihar, shared plenty of details in this brief open-world trailer. He informed us of how quickly the game’s load times are going to be on PS5 when swapping between the two Spider-Men or using fast travel. Many other details were missed while the latter half of the showcase featured a generous amount of suits for both Peter and Miles, including the fact that gamers will pursue Lizard through the streets.
However, there was one particular feature from the open-world game that might just have revealed a big villain in the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. In the trailer, we see one symbol that was displayed on the game’s sky and was also directly addressed by Intihar. The creative director describes a diamond-shaped green eye logo as a “mysterious” symbol.
There’s a high chance that this description was only used to hide what the symbol might actually mean, but what’s obvious is that the logo belongs to the illusionary villain and special effects artist Mysterio. It’s unclear what the symbol marks and what role the evil villain might play in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, considering how many villains are spread through different districts and boroughs, the players might have to complete tons of item-hunting tasks or pre-requisite collectible tasks for the antagonist.

Spider-Man’s Mysterio
Mysterio, also known as Quentin Beck, is a supervillain who debuted in Marvel Comics and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #13. He was primarily an adversary of the superheroes Spider-Man and Daredevil. Even though Mysterio does not possess any superhuman abilities, he is a former illusionist, actor, and special effects artist who makes use of his talents to commit crimes. On top of this, he is also a founding member of the supervillain team the Sinister Six.
The villain has made an appearance in multiple media adaptations, including video games, feature films, and television series. Jake Gyllenhaal has also played the role of Mysterio in the live-action MCU movie Spider-Man: Far From Home and appeared once again in Spider-Man: No Way Home. We might just get to see the character soon once the game releases.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to release exclusively on PS5 on October 20, 2023.
