Star Wars has been in existence for more than four decades and it has been a staple in pop culture that it is one of the longest running franchises in today's day and age. Being a multibillion-dollar franchise comes with the popularity that reaches the point of being emulated in different ways, however, there comes a time when one exceeds the bounds of imitating the brand in a legal aspect. Holding the brand of the franchise, Lucasfilm sues a car wash with a Star Wars theme named "Star Wash" in the outskirts of Santiago, Chile for plagiarism.
Star Wars is, without a doubt, one of the most popular franchises to ever exist today and it spans from movies, to series, to games, and even toys. However, the list does not include a car wash and that is the main reason why Lucasfilm, a Walt Disney production company who holds the brand of Star Wars, pursued to sue a themed car wash named "Star Wash" located in the outskirts of Santiago, Chile. The case placed by Lucasfilm against the car wash is plagiarism and this was revealed in a report from Reuters coming from the lawyers of the car wash which confirmed the situation.
In the same report, the car wash is said to have attendants wearing Star Wars costumes doing the work like Darth Vader with The Force to summon the cleaning cloths, Boba Fett without the blasters but with hosepipes, and Chewbacca wiping windshields or car hoods. All these are available to see on the Instagram page of Star Wash. The lawyers of the owner of the car wash confirmed that the lawsuit was brought forth by Lucasfilm with an argument that registering the name of the car wash could result to a confusion of being affiliated to Star Wars. In their defense, the car wash claims that the copyright of Lucasfilm to Star Wars do not extend to cleaning cars.
