The Marvel Cinematic Universe has incredibly hyped up the release of Loki Season 2 with the number of promotional stints it has done for the show as of late. And to complete the excitement, it reveals that the second season’s official release date will fall on a Friday, seemingly hinting at the end of the MCU release trend on Disney+ that many have hated.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feign announced that Loki Season 2 would premiere on October 6 during Disney’s 2023 Upfront event. And with this confirmation, it was revealed that the show would leave the MCU’s usual Wednesday schedule that started in Loki Season 1.

When Disney+ launched in 2019, it debuted its major shows, like The Mandalorian, WandaVision, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, every Friday. However, come June 2021, when the first season of Loki premiered, the weekly releases were moved to Wednesdays.

And since then, Disney+ has been streaming major MCU titles every Wednesday, such as Hawkeye, the animated series What If…?, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel. By the looks of it, this will be a welcoming change for fans.

Why is Loki Season 2 release schedule moved?

Though neither MCU nor Disney+ hasn’t given any reason why Loki Season 2 returns to its original Friday schedule, the streamer and the studio may want to take advantage of the upcoming Columbus Day holiday weekend. This means that many people will be off work, and they may all have free time to watch TV at home.

Take it from WandaVision, its two-episode premiere came out on a Friday and created a huge noise on social media. People kept talking about it throughout the weekend, and many always looked forward to seeing it every Friday night as they had no work to think about the next morning.

Compared to the Wednesday releases, people have much to think about the next day, from school to work and other weekday activities. They may not even have the leisure time to stay up late. It’s also good to note that Marvel Studios may have confidence that Loki Season 2 can make it and compete with theaters, considering films usually debut on Thursdays or Fridays.

Surely, with Loki Season 2’s return to the Friday schedule, many will now have the chance to see Tom Hiddleston’s return as the God of Mischief. It may even help the series have a lot of viewers and high ratings.
