Loki Season 2 Episode 5 brought thrilling revelations and intriguing connections that captivated fans. The episode not only raised the stakes for the God of Mischief and his band of unlikely allies but also explored the past lives of Loki's friends, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.

In this week's episode, Loki finds himself alone in the TVA headquarters, where the Temporal Loom's disintegration leads to time-slipping. During these temporal leaps, Loki encounters Casey, who is in the midst of an audacious escape plan from Alcatraz in 1962. Notably, Casey doesn't recognize Loki and continues executing the escape from the infamous prison island.

The episode references Casey as "Frank," a significant name with real-life connections to an unsolved mystery related to Alcatraz.

In June 1962, Clarence Anglin, John Anglin, and Frank Morris executed a remarkable escape from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. This legendary escape involved a meticulously planned scheme. The three inmates created detailed paper-mache heads that strikingly resembled their own likenesses. They secretly placed these fake heads in their beds.

The intricate plan unfolded as they navigated their way through the prison, using ventilation ducts and an abandoned utility corridor to bypass the main prison building's security measures. This clandestine route allowed them to elude the vigilant guards, and the daring inmates made their way toward freedom without detection.

To complete their escape, they utilized an improvised inflatable raft to sail into the uncertain waters of San Francisco Bay. The destination and ultimate fate of these escapees remained shrouded in mystery, becoming a legendary unsolved case.

Loki Season 2 Episode 5 appears to provide an unexpected answer to this mystery by revealing that Casey, known as Frank Morris in this context, successfully escaped from Alcatraz in 1962. This would mean "Frank" ran off to join the TVA with Loki, leaving the fate of his two companions still unanswered. The connection to a real-life historical event adds a layer of intrigue to the episode, enhancing the complexity and depth of the storyline.

Loki Previously Referenced Another Unsolved Mystery

Interestingly, the Alcatraz incident isn't the first real-life unsolved mystery referenced in Loki. In the first season, it was revealed that Loki was the mysterious D.B. Cooper, an unidentified man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft and made off with $200,000 of ransom money on November 24, 1971.

At this point, it is unclear if there will be more real-life unsolved mysteries that will be referenced in the show considering that the finale is coming next week. On the other hand, it could still be possible since the creative team is open to continue exploring Loki's story in Season 3.
