While fans still wait for Rockstar Games to announce Grand Theft Auto 6 officially, the size of the game’s map was leaked, and it’s much bigger than GTA 5’s map. Even though the map of GTA 5 is still pretty massive compared to a lot of other open-world video games, it also features a modern setting with plenty of fast vehicles, such as hypercars, supercars, and jet aircraft.

Talking realistically here, most of these vehicles can easily cross the map in only a few seconds since it’s just some miles wide. This is the reason why GTA 5 consists of a radically reduced scale for the speed of their vehicles. Many vehicles move at a speed that’s half their mentioned speed, so if a car is said to be moving at 140 MPH, it’s actually moving at around 70 MPH.

For gameplay purposes, the aircraft, especially jets, move at even more reduced speeds. Although it seems pretty fair, it does take away from the game’s realism, making the whole experience of driving the extremely fast cars players can earn in GTA 5’s online mode a lot less exciting.

When it comes to GTA 6, that’s not really the case. During a big leak last year, tons of early development footage of the game was leaked with a developer overlay enabled. One thing in particular that fans got to see in the video was the coordinates of the player’s character. Grand Theft Auto 6 will most probably use the RAGE engine’s evolved version that Rockstar Games has been using ever since GTA 5, and fans are quite aware of the coordinate system the engine uses.

Fans ended up putting together a map that gave them some idea of the size of GTA 6’s playable area by plotting the coordinates shown in all of the leaked videos. After overlaying Grand Theft Auto 5’s map over GTA 6’s map and then comparing the scale with the help of popular RAGE engine units, it was found that GTA 6 can be twice as huge as GTA 5.

The GTA 6 map above was created by a YouTuber, but the map below was put together by the GTA community from leaks and rumors. If this map turns out to be true, the {0,0} location of the map is pretty empty, leaving plenty of room for islands that were nowhere to be seen in the leaked content.

From earlier leaks, we know that Rockstar initially planned for the next GTA game to have a much bigger map, consisting of several cities the size of GTA 5’s Los Santos. The map might even end up extending to the north and including some parts of North Florida cities, such as Orlando and its popular theme park.
