Some images from the set of Deadpool 3 recently showed what might be the death of a key Marvel character. The movie is set to star Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, the latter of whom is finally returning to the role for the first time in this movie after Logan. Deadpool 3 is the only cinematic release of MCU for 2024, set to launch on July 26.
The pictures were shared on December 3 by The Mirror, spoiling what seems to be the death of Sabretooth, the popular Wolverine villain. The first of the two images features Deadpool possibly standing on the sandy plain that was seen in previous set photos shared this past summer before the actor’s strike. Not only this but while standing, he’s also holding Sabretooth’s severed head.
The second photo shows Wolverine in his classic blue and yellow suit, with Deadpool 3 marking the first time the hero will wear this suit in live-action. While wearing that suit, Wolverine can be seen fighting the villain. Many fans might recognize Sabretooth from the 2000’s X-Men, which was played by Tyler Mane. Moreover, the punch from Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the X-Men film looks like the same move being used in Deadpool 3’s set images.
What might be the plot of Deadpool 3?
The images featuring Sabretooth’s death further add to the theory that Deadpool 3 might be an adaptation of the Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe comic by Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajić. The theory claims that the third film in the Deadpool franchise is set to feature Wolverine and Deadpool as they kill the 20th Century Fox Marvel Universe.
What seems to be supporting this theory is the fact that Fox Marvel actress Jennifer Garner is reprising her role as Elektra from the 2003 Daredevil movie and its 2005 Elektra spin-off. Shawn Levy, Deadpool 3’s director, also confirmed that the movie is going to pay homage to the Fox Marvel Universe to some extent. The evidence that solidifies this specific part of the theory is the set photo that was previously released featuring the 20th Century Fox logo in ruins.
With Deadpool officially shifting over to the MCU in Deadpool 3, there’s a chance he’s severing ties with his original universe by demolishing it. Since this is just a theory and hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, one shouldn’t take it seriously. However, let’s wait and see what the movie has in store for fans once it is officially released.
Deadpool 3 is set to hit theatres on July 26, 2024.
