There are several questions surrounding the upcoming Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman movie Deadpool 3, from Taylor Swift’s alleged possible cameo to other characters’ appearances. But if there’s one thing that die-hard Marvel fans want to know, it’s if this movie is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And finally, director Shawn Levy breaks his silence about it.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Levy confirmed that Deadpool 3 would be very much connected to the MCU Multiverse Saga. The filmmaker was cautious of giving away any detail about the movie and the franchise itself, fearing that even giving a few Marvel titles could lead to rumors and misinformation.

“I'll just say this: It's very much part of the MCU; what a privilege, what a wealth of resources and knowledge,” he said.

How will Deadpool join the MCU?

Now that it’s officially confirmed that Deadpool 3 is part of the MCU, it only means that Wade Wilson is directly connected to this universe. The film is formally announced as the 34th movie in the MCU and the 10th installment of Phase 5.

The first two films weren’t in the MCU because their rights were still with 20th Century Fox when they were made. Now that Marvel has acquired these rights, the Merc with a Mouth now has a chance to get along with the Avengers. This could happen through the Multiverse Saga, where the characters from different realities cross timelines—just like in Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Tom Holland’s Spider-Man allied with the two previous Spider-Men, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

This was even hinted at in the Deadpool 2 post-credits scene, where Wade used a time machine that could have created two distinct realities or caused him to cross universes. That said, Wade and Wolverine could be from a different timeline and would crossover into the MCU.

Reynolds himself talked about this in an interview with SiriusXM. He said that through the “device” that the Marvel world has to move across timelines, they will be able to go back due to “science.” Hence, his character won’t ruin the timeline in the 2017 Logan movie, which he believes is important to fans and even him.
