Marvel properties from 20th Century Fox are finally making the jump to the MCU and it starts with one of the fan-favorites, the Merc With A Mouth, on Deadpool 3, where he will be joined by Wolverine. While not all are confirmed to be transferring to the MCU and others are getting their respective reboots, there is one 20th Century Fox Marvel property that is still in question: Elektra. Played by Jennifer Garner in Elektra, the actress remains coy on her rumored return in Deadpool 3.
Many moons ago, Jennifer Garner suited up as Elektra in her own titular 2005 movie and in the 2003 Daredevil. Almost two decades after her last appearance as Elektra, rumors surfaced that Jennifer Garner will be back as Elektra in Deadpool 3 and this was seemingly confirmed by a now-deleted tweet of Maximum Effort, Ryan Reynolds' studio, on X saying: "Moms of Future Past. Welcome to Deadpool, Jennifer Garner." Why the tweet was tweeted and deleted later on remains unknown.
When asked by Collider in an interview, Jennifer Garner played coy on her reprisal of the role saying, "I don't know what you're talking about. What could you mean?" When further inquired into the possibility of her "hypothetical" return on Deadpool 3, Garner immediately said, "Not that I'm aware of." Garner's actions, however, spoke otherwise as she seems to be containing a laugh which may suggest that something is going on. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed in July that Deadpool 3 has added Jennifer Garner to its cast which makes it weird that Jennifer Garner is playing coy on her return as Elektra.
Is Elektra joining the MCU?
Jennifer Garner played the role of Elektra at a time when Marvel was not even quite a thing in cinema being prior to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following the Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, however, the Marvel properties of the latter can now join the MCU and that starts with Deadpool 3 who is the most certain to join the MCU among all other properties. The X-Men, too, are arriving to the MCU but their appearance is yet to be known. Now that the gap has been bridged, Elektra can now join the MCU anytime.
The rumors on Jennifer Garner's return as Elektra in Deadpool 3 could be possible since the fishy now-deleted tweet of Ryan Reynolds' studio, Maximum Effort, and the confirmation from the reports mentioned above. Ryan Reynolds is bringing back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, it would certainly be possible, too, that he could bring back Jennifer Garner's Elektra as well. In the comics, Elektra is an assassin hired by The Hand with the abilities of telekinesis, telepathy, mind switch, precognition, and hypnosis. Whenever Marvel Studios would will that Elektra is needed in the MCU, she is now free from the studio barriers and could appear anytime in the MCU.
Deadpool 3 is slated for a theatrical release on July 26, 2024.
