Shawn Levy has hinted that Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 could potentially mark the character's final appearance. After all, Jackman was supposed to say goodbye to the mutant in Logan so this reprisal is like an unexpected gift for fans. Still, the unexpected reunion between Jackman and Ryan Reynolds' Merc With a Mouth in the third Deadpool film adds an exciting twist to the Marvel universe. With that in mind, the director is determined to make his final return a special one.
Levy recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly where he admitted he has big plans for Wolverine in Deadpool 3. The director pointed out that since it is unclear whether Jackman will continue playing the character after the movie, he decided that Wolverine's upcoming on-screen team-up with Deadpool should be memorable.
"Like the rest of the world, I've waited two decades to see Wolverine in a whole movie with Deadpool, and I don't know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right," Levy said.

It certainly hypes up Deadpool 3 but Levy's comments also created an air of uncertainty surrounding the future of Wolverine. While this cameo is undoubtedly a thrilling surprise, it might also serve as a poignant farewell to one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel universe.
The possibility of never seeing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine again adds an element of nostalgia and finality to this much-anticipated crossover, leaving fans eager to see how this chapter unfolds and what it might mean for the character's legacy in the Marvel cinematic landscape.
Jackman is not the only major Marvel character making a comeback in Deadpool 3. It was previously confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra Natchios, a character she originally played in 2003's Daredevil and 2005's Elektra.
Deadpool 3 will also bring back Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Shioli Kutsuna, and Rob Delaney. Stefan Kapičić will once again provide the voice of Colossus in the film. Although production has been halted due to the writers and actors' strikes, the sequel is currently scheduled for release on May 3, 2024.
